What are you basing that on? Barker specifically said he filmed it both ways so that it wouldn't be clear, and that the movie was filmed from Bear's perspective to make it extra confusing. I've never seen an interview from him where he said what you're claiming.

Fair enough, confirm wasn't the correct word. I agree that things are filmed to be ambiguous and the dialogue is mostly ambiguous, but again - "Now's the time to say something if so" is the giveaway. Plus her body language at his response, like he mentions here.

This is one movie I wouldn't have mind the creators not explaining. The Tarantino briefcase annoyed the fuck out of me when I first saw Pulp Fiction. I was young and needed to know WTF was in that briefcase, but as I've gotten older I can appreciate the approach of letting me decide what I just watched. It's not a documentary. It's a movie to entertain me.

Then again if they hadn't clarified some points of the movie this debate would rage on for another 10 pages.

That scene was crystal clear. 1000% friendzone. This is an interesting Rorschach test.

I watched part of your clip. I see that the director intends ambiguity on this point. But what I'm saying is, watching that scene, it didnt seem even a little bit ambiguous to me.

I know there are conflicting inverviews and such, but I really don't think she actually had a crush on him. (Aldarion posted while I was posting this, so I'm repeating his basically).

If she knew he liked her, and she liked him, she had zero reason to be randomly hooking up with Ian. Women that friendzone dudes fuck other dudes, not women that have secret crushes.

Before I found out she was hooking up with Ian, I thought it was going to end up that she liked him all along, but to me that's a pretty clear indicator that she only sees him as a simp/friend.

I don't think it was that bad. I watched Backrooms after it, and I enjoyed it quite a bit more between the two out of left field horror hits this year.

It's a good movie though, and I never felt it was a waste of time.

I guess I didn't notice that, but I watch all my movies now with subtitles or closed captioning. Much easier for me to not miss anything with my hearing getting worse, but maybe that's also why I didn't notice it.

Exactly and once again shows why this movie should of been called “can’t get pussy: the movie”

she wanted to know so she could see if her beta orbiter still knows his place as the answer to her is for him to say no and keep the game which it is to her going

if he is dumb enough to say yes then she has to cut him loose as that is not how the look but don’t touch game of feeding her ego goes and he will be embolden to do more and then it gets too weird

Yeah. I called it a rorshach test earlier but that was wrong.

Its simpler than that. Its "do you understand the friendzone phenomenon or not?" This was blatant, obvious, crystal clear friendzone behavior.

And its necessary. People who somehow misread that scene miss something fundamental about the movie. She enslaved and abused him, he enslaved and abused her. Without this understanding he's just some one dimensional cartoonish asshole and she's just an innocent victim. Understanding what was going on made it a much richer movie.

Its interesting because I thought everyone understood friends zone after about 1999 or so but I guess some missed it?
