Poke, poke, poke, ult —> win the fight or reset is what skilled overwatch looks like. All the camera angles in the world aren’t going to change that. You guys are looking for Hail Mary plays when what you are going to normally get are a bunch of short runs and maybe a 10-20 yard pass on third down if you’re lucky. Pros play like pros, not like the feeders and heroes most of us encounter in our day to day matches.

Overwatch is interesting in that individual plays happen quickly, but the pace of the overall game - the waxing and waning of points being taken or being defended - is much slower (relatively). You can’t know how a game will necessarily end after seeing one team cap a point in less than a minute, for example.


Man you may well be right sadly.. unfortunately it's just vastly more boring than watching a basketball team run pick and rolls over, (Or other plays, hoping the Defense makes a mistake or you get a favorable matchup)and over until the shot clock is so low they run a deperation iso. You can say they same thing about any pro sports basically. IMO the issue is esports are just vastly less exciting than watching athletes do these same relatively low risk, high reward strategy repeatedly.

Maybe the issue is not to try to be like Athletic sports... I stopped playing MTG back in 2004 but my DCI rating was fairly good at 2050 in constructed. Even at what id guess was a top 500 level back then. The exchanges could often be be very exciting and varied game by game. I remember really enjoying the Miracle Grow Meta, or U/G madness... No clue how magic is now but i can't help if adding that element of a more varied game and randomness could aid e-sports then trying to be well.....literal e-sports.

I've started setting up my 5 yo son with custom AI games in Overwatch. He freakin' loves it. He thinks Roadhog is the greatest thing.

It's fun to watch him slowly get better at WASD controls. Right now he just uses WS XD

I'm not sure why the Gladiators decided to let a Pharah run around uncontested. Very stupid gameplan. They should have won Oasis.

Agreed, it was totally baffled by that. I don’t get it at all, although Gladiators do that a lot to be honest...go with a comp and refuse to adapt, and it always cost them.

I caught him queued up in QP last night. I kindly told him that he might want to wait a bit to play there. Once he gets the hang of WASD I'll unleash him with real people.

So after it FINALLY seemed like i had the connection issue sorted out they have returned with a vengeance since the last patch. Hopefully Blizz fixes it fast as i am 100% sure it never occurred before the last patch day.

Basically, between the start of a new round as you'd normally see the character selection screen, or the game loading right after selection. Be it the first round, or entering a new round, OW will either crash 100% and OFC bnet thinks it still running, i retry it and i get this errorhttps://us.battle.net/support/en/article/13222 . Or a few lucky times just kicked me to menu and i could rejoin immediately (sadly those were always in non-comp,)

I just got DC losses from 2 comp games in a row because of this.. Really feel bad for my teammates as the final one happened at the start of round 4 kings row in a very winnable match that me and the tank dude were 100% carrying the team. Other one was at the start of the game, so despite the fact

Sucks as I really wanted to win that last one as it was hilariously one sided until me and the other healer we decided since the DPS were not doing anything and the opponents were like 100% squishy we would switch to Moira and Reinhardt and go super aggressive, suddenly we went from being virtually spawn camped to winning round one with an extra minute over our opponents. I'm getting to the point of thinking i should give up playing on Comp and just do PS4 full time if I'm gonna do any comp OW.

Overwatch PTR Patch Notes – April 18, 2018

Genji hitbox and Tracer gets nerfed! The new Hanzo ability is really cool too bad I'm terrible with him.

A new Overwatch patch is currently in development and now available for testing. To share your feedback or report and issue, please post in the PTR Feedback 20 or PTR Bug Report 4 forums.

Please note that the below patch notes only include changes currently available for testing on the PTR. While many of these changes will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in a future patch, the PTR is PC-only and therefore will only reflect changes coming specifically to that platform.

PATCH HIGHLIGHTS

New Escort Map: Rialto

Rialto was home to Talon agent Antonio Bartalotti’s sprawling estate and the backdrop to the infamous “Venice Incident,” a turning point for Overwatch and Talon. The Italian government has taken great steps to preserve Venice, and the results are striking. Tourists visiting this picturesque town can sample the regional cuisine, enjoy a relaxing gondola ride, visit Galleria D’arte Omnica, or simply take in the sights with a stroll along the canal.

HERO UPDATES

Genji

Deflect

  • Hitbox size has been reduced
Developer Comments: The hitbox on Genji’s Deflect was big enough that it would sometimes reflect projectiles that were pretty far away from him. We’ve tightened up the hitbox, which should solve this problem while still fully protecting him from projectiles that would hit him from the front.

Hanzo

Storm Bow

  • Projectile speed increased from 85 to 100
Sonic Arrow

  • Cooldown decreased from 20 seconds to 12 seconds
  • Duration decreased from 10 seconds to 6 seconds
  • Radius decreased from 10 meters to 7 meters
New Abilities

Lunge

  • Press jump while in the air to leap horizontally
Storm Arrows

  • Replaces his existing Scatter Arrow ability
  • Hanzo can now rapidly fire up to 6 arrows that deal reduced damage but are always fired at full power
Developer Comments: The goal of these Hanzo changes is to allow him to have new options and maintain his high damage output, while removing the frustration of fighting against the old Scatter Arrow. Hanzo is now much more mobile with his new Lunge ability, and with the combination of the bow projectile speed increase and the new Storm Arrows ability he can now deal his high damage more consistently than ever before.

Junkrat

Frag Launcher

  • Projectile size decreased from 0.3 to 0.2
RIP-Tire

  • Tire movement speed decreased from 13 to 12
Developer Comments: These changes are aimed at lowering some of the most frustrating parts about playing against Junkrat. Decreasing the Frag Launcher’s projectile size means he will have to aim a bit more carefully to land powerful direct hits and slowing the RIP-Tire’s movement speed gives his opponents slightly more time to destroy it before it detonates.

Lúcio

Wall Ride

  • Wall riding is less likely to be interrupted along a single surface
  • Can now go around corners (both outside corners, and inside corners) without having to leave the wall
  • Can now land back on the same wall after leaping away, provided his leap takes him far enough away from the original jumping off point.
Soundwave

  • No longer consumes ammo
Developer Comments: Wall Ride has been significantly overhauled to allow it to function more smoothly across more areas of every map. Lúcio players should instantly notice a huge improvement in where and how Wall Ride can be used. In addition, Sonic Amplifier’s Soundwave ability was unnecessarily controlled by both a cooldown and an ammo cost, so we’re removing the ammo cost.

Tracer

Pulse Bomb

  • Max damage decreased from 400 to 300
Developer Comments: Pulse Bomb was too good at killing tanks, who can be easy to stick due to their size. This damage reduction makes it less powerful as a tank-destroyer, while keeping it lethal against most other heroes.

  • Mercy’s Regeneration (passive ability) can now be turned off in Custom Game settings
  • Settings for Hanzo’s Lunge and Storm Arrow abilities can now be found in the Custom Game settings

  • Fixed a bug that caused the option “Invite to a Custom Game” to appear while in the Tutorial and Practice Range

  • Fixed a bug that prevented training bots from returning to their original position and behavior after being hit with an ability (e.g. Lúcio’s Soundwave)
  • Fixed a bug that caused bots to use the wrong route when tracking down the player if their target jumped off a ledge
  • Fixed a bug that caused bots to get stuck on the siege tank in the StarCraft area of Blizzard World
Game Browser and Custom Game

  • Fixed a bug that caused custom game invites to persist on the invitee’s screen

  • Fixed a bug that prevented Bastion’s Zwing Zwing Zwing voice line from playing if the Null Sector skin was equipped

  • Fixed a bug that allowed Junkrat’s RIP-TIRE to be immune to the freeze effects of Mei’s Endothermic Blaster

  • Fixed a bug that allowed Lúcio to travel straight up using Wall Ride

I'm surprised no one is mentioning the wall ride buff.

Me and some of my friends have been screwing around with that and his movement is already borderline broken as is currently, i'm worried the actual effect of this change will be people like some of my friends flying around at twice the speed they expected and basically dancing all over the map virtually unhittable. He's already a fucking bitch to get off the payload/point wen played by a good player.

We did a thing 2 days ago on Hanamura. So, me and 2 friends played widow for 30 mins against my friend going nuts wall riding ect.( we also included 5 other lucio bots for variety and make it less a out and out contest to hit him). on Lucio, granted i'm not a Widow player at all but I think i landed 2 headshots in that span and maybe 3-4 body shot kills? One of us i don't think had a single headshot kill on him in that time.

Now they want to buff that ability? OK good luck, i can't see this ending well.

Some new nerfs on the PTR. Also Lunar Colony Map has some MAJOR changes to it. There's a few video of it on YouTube, the changes are really big.

There are a couple changes that are on the current PTR that we missed on the main patch notes. I’ll be including them here as well as any additional changes if we make any for this PTR cycle.
Brigitte:
•Shield Bash
  • Cone angle reduced from 90 to 60
Dev Notes: When fighting against Brigitte, it often felt like Shield Bash was able to hit you when you felt like you should have dodged it. On the flip side, when playing as Brigitte sometimes you would hit the wrong enemy in the middle of a fight. With the cone being reduced the ability is more accurate to its visual representation.
Lucio
  • Wall Ride
    Wall leap boost decreased from 2.5 m/s to 2.0m/s
Dev Notes: This change is just part of the overall changes to wall riding. Now that you can ride on many more surfaces and boost/land on the same surface, we’re reducing the leap boost itself slightly.
Bug Fixes:
•Fixed a bug that would cause Brigitte to not be able to use abilities or her weapon while her Repair Pack was in flight.

They really need to revamp the DC system, especially given the known instability in the most recent patch. IT just sucks losing all this massive SR amount of SR, despite the fact i often returned and helped win the match like that one. The current system basically encourages anyone who DCs not to bother returning.

Lastly: How do you guys feel about Brigitte now that we have had a bit of time to play her?

I still don't see her as very good, her healing ability is super, super limited, although she can be a fantastic secondary healer on the right team comp. 1v1 she can be surprising difficult to put down and can get some surprising kills of the unwary. Much like Reinhardt I find the easy way to deal with her is to flank. I don't play MOira nearly as much in QP as I do in comp, but the best way to fight her is often to have a Moiria fade to a flanking position 10-20m off her and she's pretty much screwed as she can only defend in a singe direction. Same thing I do with Reinhardt, although at least he has a bunch of armour so Moira herself is to as big a threat until thats eaten up.

It's still hard to evaluate Brigitte, and like a few heroes, I think how good she is will vary depending on ranking. I think she will be OP at lower ranks, and situational at higher ranks similar to Moira.

She might be the best duelist in the game, and might end up being a really good carry hero at low ranks.

In 20 hours or so with her between PTR and QP, I think I've gotten more 4-5 golds than with any other heroes.

I think we're going to see a few of 3 support with her where she'll take the spot of the off tank rather than a support for some really massive sustain.

I think her healing is a bit under-evaluated. Her healing numbers are a bit above Zen in my experience. What is not often taken into account is the damage mitigated by the shields she provides, not all the shield is damage mitigate because some of it will just decay, but a lot is, and that's damage that you don't need to heal. Also in a similar way, she blocks some damage with her shield.

The most annoying aspect of playing Brigitte is when you have nothing to hit, and can't heal. You just stand looking at an injured teammate...and can't do anything till your repair pack is off cooldown, although this similar to Moira when healing resource is empty.

Surefour and IDDQD both said that her ultimate might be one of the best in the game.

eh I think she'll do great on stuff like payload attack but thats about it. Defense in general I don't see it. Especially since I'm guessing we'll see a ton more Hanzo...
