PC Gamer and Gamasutra, as well as other bigger sites, have posted about Pantheon. And just look at this thread and the number of views! Amazing! It's sooo refreshing to know how many of you are out there that feel the same way about where MMOs have been going, that they've not necessarily gone in the right direction as of late. The positive response for Pantheon has been overwhelmingly positive and encouraging. Thank you all
smile.png

The biggie is how many more or less people will be excited after the KS site is up (SOON(TM:emoji_nose:, with all of the additional info about the game that will be revealed. I'm confident that it will grow the number of excited future players

I'm also excited that after the site is up I'll be able to come here and other places and discuss a lot of the details with you guys, get your feedback and reaction, etc. Although when this thread gets lit up, there can be a ton of posts all at once! I will do my best to keep up

Exciting times Brad. Really want to see you guys succeed at this. Appreciate you stepping up and deciding to put the breaks on the direction mmos are going. Plenty of room for niche type games.

Good to hear. Any word on a PvP server, faction, full loots, coins, etc?
All I can say right now is PvP is a stretch goal. If we raise enough $$ we want to implement it correctly. We don't want to just hack in a quickie PvP system. That's really how we're approaching a lot of major features -- we're making sure we have the time and resources to do this stuff right.

Sounds like you have a sound "Business" plan created. The feedback on many websites is encouraging.

Let's get rocking!

Lol wonder how players would handle it if you didn't use any system like Popsicle mentioned...I really like the thought of that haha.. Talk about trial and error..
Same way we handled it in EQ. Give us a general measuring stick like the /consider function based on levels, if the game has levels (skill totals, if the game has skills, etc). Then, the bigger orc that spawned in the middle tent? Assume he's stronger because he's bigger. That Dwarf that just spawned with an eye patch and a sword, assume he's a badass. You go into a dungeon, assume the thing called 'runt' is weaker than the thing call 'assassin.' The mob that the other mobs actually gave a real name too? Assume he'll kick your pansy ass. A giant? Good-fucking-luck if you get hit.

Being smart enough to figure things outisthe system.

Same with pvp. You don't need a pvp system (read as, battle grounds and pvp gear and pvp ranks and pvp skills and all that shit). You just need a world worth fighting over and then for pvp to be turned on (and tweaked/balanced a bit). Figuring out how to survive thenisthe system.

Less is moar, prz.

Not a big fan of the "just guess" idea to "con" a mob. I'm all about less hand holding but seriously, Just take a guess? That's a dumb idea.

Bring it back list:

1. Races of all sizes. Medium, small, large? Not sure if this fits in world of Pantheon though?
2. Meaningful npc factions where you choose ala Velious.
3. Shoulda been number one to me, dark night time! Races with night time advantages! Or just dark night time.
4. No hard coded player factions
5. Single item loot pvp. Separate server for this option is fine, might not want to jam it into all pvp servers.

The fear of gear loss would be a great death penalty. A random chance a piece of gear is permanently destroyed on death. Then when there is single item pvp looting the pve players will already be use to it. Bring on the tears!

thanks -- yes, we have a detailed business and production plan. Like I said, some major features depend on how much $$ we bring in. I'd rather have a solid game and add some major features post-launch than try to quickly cram these systems in... quality over quantity, etc. And, even if we don't reach certain $$ tiers (although I think we will), we can always launch a solid game and then add these features in post-launch as parts of mini-expansions and the like. So we *will* get there eventually, sooner or later. We have plans for some pretty crazy exotic stuff and our architecture allows us to add to and revise the game fairly easily.

We are in this for the long haul. This is *not* a fire and forget project. We've no plans on starting a second project or anything like that. We want to evolve this game for years to come and, essentially, our company is Pantheon Inc. because that's going to be the focus for a long time. EQ 1 and other MMOs have clearly proven that a solid, fun game will keep people interested and involved for years and years, which is great. I tend to 'fall in love' with my current project, focussing on it and nothing else. I'm also pretty darned tenacious -- I don't get sick of a great game or play a bunch of different games all at once. Instead I grab hold of one game and stick my teeth into it like a pit bull
smile.png
I like to be focussed on where the game is at the moment, what the next steps are, etc. And then I dream about where a game like Pantheon could go if we stick to it for months and years. And I dream big

There will absolutely be a /con system -- I'm just saying, at the moment, that we're not planning on a 'dot' system like Vanguard. Vanguard was focused on being able to solo and group effectively. Pantheon is even more group focussed.

It's not a guess, it's a reasonable assumption. You just barely killed that mob called an orc peon. Are you going to then try to solo Chief Orc Daddy himself? Only if you're an idiot, and you'll learn your lesson and thus have lurned how 2 play. So, no, it's not a guess, it's using your knowledge of the game and context to make an educated decision on whether to engage.

Not much different from every game, just with less of the game telling you what you can and should do, and more of you deciding if it's worth the risk at attempting something.

You know what would be killer if we could keep it all organized: a list of features you guys want to see, and, just as importantly, stuff you don't want to see. I realize that not everyone is completely on the same page, but we could still maintain a list and just note where people disagree and list the different paths people with differing opinions want us to go.

Any ideas on how we could do this? On this site? Or maybe use google docs? What do you guys think? Too crazy to keep it updated with so many people interested in Pantheon, or maybe something we can try and give it a shot?

So much fun in EQ1 came from broken mechanics though. Sand Giant stuck on the dock in OOT for a nice surprise to visitors? Fear a pet and zone and watch players die? No such thing as leashing for the big trains? Ok, this may be more legit but casting knockback spells on players in the karana tree on a pvp server and watching players fall to their death.

Put it in an up to date list and keep the OP current. I'm about to try and filter through this thread and slap in some noteworthy quotes and concept art. The amount of info we know now compared to when I started this thread has grown and it's about to grow even more.

I understand what your trying to say, and on the surface it makes sense. But the downside of that is having to think about every single name of every single mob you create rather then just using a name generator. Or, just fighting blindly and when you die, start over. Your idea is a bit extreme.
