A lot of people are waiting for them to fix all the goofs from the last big patch. It was Part 1 of a 2 part patch, so it was always going to be half baked, but they made some questionable decisions with switching stats and modifiers all around for no great reason. Some classes got broken. Some of the itemization is also in flux. The dungeon they released is pretty good, but they borked all the melee classes with the stat switch up. A hot fix reverted some of the issues and they addressed some others, such as tank threat getting fixed, but a lot of people are waiting on them to fix the classes before logging back in. I think most people that experienced EA are pretty comfortable with the game being solid, it just needs to be finished. I know quite a few that are waiting until release to play, and will be years. A few others are waiting for the next continent and new races/classes.

In short, there's not a lot of reason to play heavily right now. Content is limited, development is slow. There is no monthly fee, so for VR, inbetween big content releases, it's probably more beneficial to be able to shrink the overhead server costs to just a few servers and merge all they can. I don't see another big release or content patch this year, just a lot of polishing. Game is solid though, I enjoy it and keep playing, but more on the casual side because there is no point to go hard unless you love alts.
