Here's to hoping that that freedom is still limited by a true class choice in the beginning. The Rift soul swapping stuff is just too much and I'm really hesitant to buy into EQN's multiclassing, be the wizadruidcromancer.
I'm still somewhat sympathetic to the idea you put a ton of time into a game and then end up quitting or being highly discouraged because you really just aren't having fun with your class. I don't want instant hot-swapping. But some kind of way. Like a quest where your level 40 ends up level 30 by the end, but a new class. Makes decisions matter without making it the 'should I keep playing at all' sort of decision.

Cmon, tad, don't fail me now! We both want to know if combat will have ot/dt or else we'll riot because it's the only right way to do combat!
Yes VG Offensive/Defensive Targeting is the right thing to do (tm). But I'd still play the game if it was old-school EQ combat instead.

Yes, Pantheon will have ot/dt and likely some other more sophisticated means by which you can group certain players or mobs together for whatever reason you come up with.

Agreed. If you're a cleric, you're a cleric. The finding of exotic abilities and spells is going to be a lot of fun. But it's still subject to a solid class based game. It allows you to customize your abilities to some degree (a meaningful degree) but it's not true multi-classing. You're a cleric who has some cool spells that many other clerics may not have. But you're still primarily a cleric and have a role to play. I'm just throwing out numbers right now, but it will be something like you're 90% cleric and then 10% something a bit different because of some crazy rare abilities or spells you've acquired by taking some risks in the depth of a dungeon.

Let me know if that makes sense.
Yes, so like class specific clickies that give you some power from another class (or highly specialized/augmented powers of your own)--except they are true skill "slots" so you don't have to design an item around it. I think everyone gets it, and given how much everyone enjoyed clickies, it sounds cool.

Spot on.

If you allow voting you'll get an Edsel.
Agreed. If we do something like this, it has to be done carefully and *meaningfully*. We want the feedback of players who are already drawn to the game. We don't need feedback from people who don't like the game and just want to change it into something else (WoW, etc.) Gathering that kind of data doesn't help anyone. Nor should any of you worry that suddenly a big group of people pop up on our message boards, demanding we fundamentally change the game, and we listen to them. That's simply not going to happen.

Brad, can we expect to see zones "flagged". In other words, you have to do a quest to enter the zone? I think earning your way into zones is fair and to be honest, it keeps the "rif raff" out, but quite a few people hate flagged zones.

That's basically what I wanted to hear. I'm all for diversity within a class and setting people apart, but the ranger should be the ranger at the end of the day. The more seasoned one may have honed his skills in a way that a second one hasn't, which earned him an ability that acknowledges that effort. I'm just tiring of the everyone can be everything at any time mindset. I mean, if everyone in EQN can obtain the Wizard spell to port to the spires, doesn't that suck the life out of the uniqueness of both the wizard class and the spires?

Hahaha. Pay to vote. $1 per vote or more ;-) Make them show you the money. Interesting way to monetize development.

Maybe not necessarily a quest to enter a zone, but it could be something more simple like, finishing a previous zone to get access to another zone.

If this were PBS I'd have just called in a pledge to order the full dvd of the program I'm DVRing!

Yes, and it's even possible that in order to achieve your next level, that you'll have to go through a dungeon, perhaps one that wouldn't let you in before, and complete some 'Achievements' in order to advance. Like I've hinted in the past, our Achievement system will be integrated into how you reach your next level, unlike other games where they're just 'cool' to unlock. Unlocking them in Pantheon will have meaning.

Ok, back to the KS site for me so we can get it up soon. I did have some fun answering some questions, even when I needed to be purposely vague. Thanks all.

I hate flagged zones. I think the 'keeping out' should be done by mobs kicking your butt.
