I still remain dubious about asynchronous trade in PoE1 but after running through a league in which I made numerous alts my positioning is softening. Trying to buy gear for characters that were doing rather specific things (extra lucky block Gladiator, Mamba Pathfinder, pile of abyss jewel Light Poacher stuff as examples) was annoying enough that I abandoned most of them. Trying to buy a dozen abyss jewels that say most of the things I want using the existing system fucking sucks. Trying to buy all the clusters (and more jewels) for Mamba fucking sucks. Mercenaries make the campaign take as long as it takes to run from one area to another but spending my hard-earned currency on them is such a pain in the dick that they all ended up on the shelf. If trade wasn't dick I'd have doing multiple respecs to try other shit but as it stands I can't be bothered. Playing semi-SSF buying only a few things a league was an entirely different experience than trying to buy a dozen items at once. A bad experience.

I said before that PoE2 was a great place to give it a go. It's a new game and it's still in beta so go hog wild trying things out. I'm hoping it goes great.

The problem with any trades in game, whether auction or face to face, is that it invites RMT which plague these games. It has plagued POE1 for years. With offline Auction house its going to be worse. Also with an offline AH you bet your ass markets will be controlled by the few. So again, they can profit from RMT. Players like you or I, no matter how hardcore, cannot compete with armies of China man running amok.

I am actually shocked that they changed their stance on async trading/AH instead of doing the thing that was actually fun: Making crafting something that everyone could participate in and to stop worrying about the 1% of players that are going to craft the best shit and complain that they didn't get enough enjoyment out of the league.

The first iteration of Harvest that went core without the tedious gardening part was the absolute peak of crafting. The targeted exalts and more deterministic crafting made me want to participate like they have always claimed they want; I picked up bases that were relevant, ID them, and would save imperfect ones because I could turn them into projects. I spent 5x more time on that league than any other and they decided it was too powerful. Having the full crafting experience for a greatly expanded percentage of the player base was just too good in a world of "closer your eyes and slam." I will never, ever understand why they couldn't just tweak the costs on those crafts or make them SSF only. There were ways to balance it other than 'too powerful, must remove becuase too many people have fun.'
