Commanders here solve a few issues. First issue is how tedious running plain maps to get to a new point of interest can be whether it be a citadel or league mechanic. They'll also let you burn through all your waystones since once you reach a certain level, you always have more waystones then you can run. They do this in real time so you just set it up before you go to bed or work or when you're grinding something else. It looks like a purely optional mechanic as well, so if you don't like it, don't use it.
Seems more like patching a core design issue instead of fixing the core issue itself(boring maps, too many waystones). Hmmm, that feels familiar. Maps too big? More checkpoints. Too much backtracking? Sprinting.

The "purely optional" response is used in discussion of Kingsmarch mechanics too. And I agree, it's purely optional. PoE1 and PoE2 are so overflowing with rewards that it makes it hard to truly judge the "optionality" of some mechanics.

But, that's not the point. I would be more vociferous if felt required, but I still object to it on the "gameplay" itself.

Crit is like the biggest end game scaling so I just hope they have a replacement. The league mechanic looks totally bleh to me. It's not the gap close that it should be between poop sockers and casulols. It is just more mobile shit being jammed into computer games.

Some.of the stuff was cool and I'm excited. I'm over 600 hours or something in this game so I guess I like it but the live stream left me pretty flaccid.

My favorite build is a grenade Gemling that doesn’t do Crit at all and is fucking amazing, I think Oracle Crit will be left alone so there is that.

Grenades are the current best way to level every class. They won't leave that in. All game devs in the 2020's are against any sort of fun.

There will be nerfs to skills, they have said so and we have seen some but they also said support gems and passive tree reworks will offset them.

For example bone shatter as movement skill is dead, whirling slash remains unaffected. I was told that a lot of Gemling alternate qualities were tone down, not changed but cut by 25% in most cases.

They are notoriously terrible at not overnerfing shit, so I wouldn't trust the "offset" part at all. You can more or less expect anything dominant currently to be thoroughly nerfed in 1.0, with new overpowered shit taking their place. A couple of things might slip through the cracks too(Varashta/Monkey/Spell totem maybe? Very good but not super popular stuff). Shadow and Duellist are pretty much guaranteed to have some very poorly balanced shit in there and even old classes might get weird stuff going on due to new skills+supports+uniques.

Tbh I'm pretty much guaranteed to play Infernalist minion considering they improved that and it's the closest thing to Necro. Will just need to figure out what flavor of minion.

I'm 100% going shadow to start. Likely traps since I'm hearing good things about them, and pretty sure the new Radiant Grief will interact with that poison gas trap the same way gas arrow does and so that should be a basically one or two button build (maybe combo it with concussive trap) instead of trying to do crazy stealth-clone-impale combo shenanigans.

Twisters is awful to play though so it's a penalty. Grenades while leveling is faceroll.
We have completely different experiences, twisters as a league starter is faceroll easy and fast while grenades is slower and more gear dependent. At end game twisters is better still and easier to gear, they are both visual AIDS at the end game but all good builds are visual AIDS.

I will agree that the whole end game is visual AIDS. You need defensive gear strictly because you can't avoid anything because who can see anything?
