You actually get to pick your dog, you don't have to give it birth. Kids on the other hand, they are stuck with your DNA. Adopting a problem child is a real life choice to be had, adopting a problem dog also the same. Birthing a problem child? Fuck.

My dachshund has: pulmonary hypertension, congested heart failure, cardiomegaly, hematuria, and an urinary tract infection.

...We're actually giving her a Viagra-like drug (phosphodiesterase inhibitor) for her PHTN. When the vet was telling me all this, I was like, "Do we need to have some kind of plan?". :\ Having animals is rough.

My Jack Russel/Border Collie loves the bees when they infest the raspberry hedge. She's super intense.

Few action shots of my pack of hounds. The Terrier I came into as a foster situation, he's just a year old. A real joy and addition to my two.

Hey guys quick question

Earlier today my house smelled like.. bad.. I can't describe it. It was a mix of shit and something far worse. After searching awhile I found a small spot of liquid on my leather couch. I knew it came from my dog and after researching it I found out about anal gland leakage. I've read some dogs need it expressed, especially JRTs. We've never had this happen before so not sure if it was a fluke or if I should be worried about it?

Anyone know much about this?

You mean like rancid pussy?

Yeah, most small dogs and some larger dogs need their anal glands expressed regularly (every 1-2 months) or you'll end up experiencing what you just described. Any vet tech or dog groomer will offer this service, though you can do it yourself if you're either too cheap or just feel like vomiting in your mouth occasionally.

Yeah it's just weird that we've had her 5 years and this is the first time. Perhaps a trip to the groomer is needed

Just got back from the vet a bit ago - had to put down our 18-year old cat. Yeah, 18 years is a damned good run especially since he was relatively healthy right up until a few weeks ago. He stopped eating anything a few days ago. Vet took a look and found a large mass under his tongue. Made the decision with the wife to put him to sleep. Cried with the wife for a while, then she left because she knew it would be too hard. I stayed with him until the end. Brought him home in a box and buried him under a tree in the back yard.

Fuck.

It's rough man. I've taken to looking at it as they had much better lives than alternatives or being wild but it still gets you in the feels.

yea holy shit, it's been 4 years since i lost my dog, and i just brought his ashes to my moms place (since i'm moving around), i didn't bring his ashes "through the house", i came in from the back yard and left him on the porch outside, something asian about not bringing the dead into your home.

My sisters saw the box labeled james (it's a nice box), and they asked what is that, and i said it's james, they cried and brought him inside, and telling mom that she should put him somewhere nice in the house. Next week, mom says she found a nice place for him, he's on a bookshelf in the basement, directly under a window and he gets sun.

These are his god damn ashes, i just had him hanging out on my bookshelf for 4 years, thinking nothing of him really, seeing how much care mom put into finding a place for him almost brought me to tears, god damn.

I miss my Dolby - we didn't move her with us when we left Nevada MO...
I have Bevo under her favorite hosta. I loved her so much - she was the smartest dog that ever lived with us - she was shepherd-lab/cattle dog mix and just fucking brilliant. She could get out of any pen ever designed. She climbed them or figured out the weakest point and would exploit it. MIke Brody Big Game Hunter (he was our chow shepherd mix and the most sweet sweet creature ever) is in the earth under the shade of the canopy of his favorite tree. That was a big hole for me to dig. I can't water the hostas or mow over that spot without thinking about them - so that is a lot.

Nubby eats Hills Science Diet WD dry food - it is prescription to fend off diabetes. His poop is super easy to clean up and his coat is flipping shiny pretty. He is a little dick though. He fucking licked my eyelids to wake me the other day - that is supremely gross.

Ah that will work fine then, my dog loves eating dogshit

My neighbor's dog also eats it's own shit-- so gross.

Seriously though, Purina is one of the worst brands out there. $15 for 23 pounds of food pretty much says everything you need to know. I think the 28lb bag of Fromm's Grain Free Salmon I get my dog is $75.

Ya Orijin is expensive as fuck but at least I only need to give my dog 1/2 a cup twice daily instead of 3 cups of grain to get the same nutrition

Pedigree is a subdivision of my wifes company, the line managers have to eat a handful of food once in a while to check it out. Also Pedigree seemed to make my dog groggy and they must put some kind of doggy crack or cocaine in there cuz he'd go crazy for it (he was always on a strict diet of iams and no human food).

when i get a new puppy, i plan on just feeding it iams + human rice/chicken/veggies.

I know it might sounds crazy to cook for your dog, but when my dog was recovering from Cancer and they told me to only feed him rice/chicken and veggies, he never looked healthier and happier.

oh i'd also mix in some Beneful, again they must have some doggie crack in this shit, cuz you'd see that tail wag like crazy
