That is neither a round robin system, nor a queueing system.

It takes balls to try to sell people on a hybrid system of two things you aren't doing at all.

"Hey guys, you know how you can make reservations for predefined slots of time at basically any business on earth? Well we are gonna do that except with extra steps and no actual predefined amount of time. And we are gonna pretend it's something else and it's innovative"

They've already nailed the Blizzard vibe.

A post like that is just desperate brainstorming to get a 'playable' version of the game on their launch weekend

It means they don't actually know how to fix whatever the bottleneck is and scale a single server to 5k+ population

Round robin means they completely gave up. The hardcap is 2k and it's not even clear if that's stable either.

The 2500 3000 3500 tests yesterday must have been catastrophic for them to just throw the towel in.

Round robin my ass.

Seems their primary limitation must be their own metal. I don't think they could get away with hosting these on AWS or something. As what you would do in this situation is... spin up another server for the increased population then consolidate later. But they likely don't have the faintest clue how to do that either.

Their discord is straight North Korea levels of locked down.
I'm not really sure what their strategy is. "We're actively listening to feedback"

Are you? #general is the only open channel and its just an endless stream of retards posting memes. You have someone sifting through those messages? Really?

Their discord feels like an AI generated community it is literally the same three sentiments on repeat. Random troll, angry post, defender post.
Makes me really hate the internet.

edit:
This really shows how bored people are with MMOs in general, always want the new thing. Don’t blame em but no amount of last minute “development” time is going to fix this. Hindsight and all that but you are just now working on multithreading(whatever that means) as a fix? If you could do it before why didn’t you?
At this point they need like 4-5 servers per type with plans to combine the dead one later.

Multithreading is the idea of parallel operations on the CPU at the same time. One thread computes X and the other thread computes Y.

They are using a WOTLK client. The client will do a lot of this by itself. As this was taken into consideration when the game was made and it is a foundational principle of computer programming.

All of their issues have to do with parallel connections to their servers and concurrency. IDK why everyone is calling threading other than just being unfamiliar with the concept in general.

To give them some benefit of the doubt their peer servers went years without any significant population gains. Turtle WoW spent like 3 years with <200 players on the server. They simply didn't expect this kind of attention. Not in their wildest dreams. Turtle only has the 2 servers and chugs along fine and it has years more development time into it.

what?

I'm not huge into the private server scene, but just looking around for a wotlk one i've seen most private servers either dead with <200 players or have 5-10k. There were quite a few wotlk era servers I looked at before settling on bronzebeard.

Ascension has like 100k+ players on it, at any point in time their discord has 50-60k people online.
