We just finished the Director's Cut tonight. It has been years since seeing the last regular version so really no idea which scenes were added / lengthened. Still a badass movie though. I just tell myself it is 100% historically accuate.

I didn't know there was a directors cut. Remember seeing it in the theater way back in the day. Does it add a bunch of runtime?

Like 10 minutes? Movie is already almost 3 hours and I think this put it right about that time. It’s on Amazon Prime for regular rental cost, $3.59 or whatever.

Mel Gibson movies are only one step above Ridley Scott when is comes to history, in which neither have any real basis in reality, other than using the names.

Well, except for one movie, which is We Were Soldiers (outside of the last 10 minutes) and that was due to him not being involved in directing or writing. That movie was only half of the book, which ended in a draw (there was no offensive at the end to send the NVA into retreat). In the second half of the book, the US forces fell into a more traditional ambush and had an even worse time.

Braveheart was probably my favorite movie as a kid and once I got more into history as an adult, his molestation of it really killed most of my enjoyment of his work.
