A big halloween roundup!

Late night with the Devil. -tubi.

and just an odd background reveal for the host.. like all the demon wanted to do, was remind Jack he made a deal with the demon? thats.. so lame. Ghostwatch obviously did a far better job with this concept.

Angel Heart for the win.

Heretic. -tubi

I was debating if this one deserved a bump to its thread here. decided nah. Very solid. tense as hell. lots of suspense. hugh grant is doing a masterclass for sure. girls doing well too. especially glasses.
absurd trap house is pretty absurd...
I was about to call out his reddit tier theology, and.. then she does it. so its interesting that his terrible arguments were intentional.

does keep me guessing. I was going to forgive the trap house at first, when it seem liked it was just one room... but then the waterlogged antechamber was added.. "cant hear us" with this giant gap under the door.
thread here didnt like the ending. which I think was fine. not perfect. but not horrible.
I would have made some small changes. dead girl coming back to life to save her, I would have made a bit more overt. getting the key, or actively stopping him from killing the other girl. not just clubbing an already dead man. then, the butterfly in a snowstorm is too fast/on the nose. I would have had her get out, then an epilogue scene with the butterfly at a later date. maybe have her going on a missionary with a new girl. and the new girl is asking her the same kinds of questions she was asking at the start. and that leads into the butterfly.

Go watch The Cycle on Shudder/AMC+ if you are a fan of horror or mystery movies.

Put me down for really liking this one. It's a well shot film that uses grounded characters and a bit of mystery to build a story. When things come together later on the contrast between the beginning of the film and what we get later on makes it all the better.

weekend at the End of the World. -amazon.

lame acting. bad fx. bad story. only a couple ok moments.

4/10 not worth your time.

---
portal to hell -amazon

disappointing. shot well. keith david. good fx. its like a sad, lame, and boring little shop of horrors. no music. boring characters. thats the real problem. debt collector is bored and sad. a portal to hell opens in the local laundromat.. meets a demon, who wants to collect his neighbors soul. hee makes a deal to fed it other bad souls in exchange for his neighbor. the laundromat manager is a bored, super apathetic/self centered women.. the two are our main leads. and both are just so boring and uninteresting. questionable morality and "im a good person." "be good" nonsense. replacing Christian morality with platitudes.

I heard the writer/director interviewed. Evidently he can make a movie on a shoe-string budget and bring in HUGE profits (at least in countries that don't ban the film outright). He also does his own make-up and special effects...

I wish I could unsee it. Yes, there is a certain charisma and blank spookiness to the villain. But there is also no REASON for any of it.

Only a few films leave me feeling disturbed for no rational reason. This one did. Why does the killer do what he does? I dunno... BUT if there ever was a film that deserved the idiom "torture-porn" it's this one. And somehow you can't compare Art the clown to Jason or Micheal Meyers or Freddie... Please, if you can explain it to me, please do so. I think the film takes itself way too seriously and torture and death aren't "fun" in this film.

I am surprised it is streaming. I have to go looking for good films. This film has a lot of intriguing elements, but its sole purpose is gore and (predominantly) sexy female stalking and death by horrific circumstances.

Yes-- there is something 1970's about it, but with such a serious undertone that made me feel ill. Cannibal Corpse only did that with the cat scene.

Fuck you, Terrifier (and its sequels). Don't support this crap. Pornstars work harder; support them over sadistic, evil misogyny with no sense of humor or decorum.

I've never understood these films. It's like people want to watch snuff videos but think they're above snuff videos.

Yeah that's a pretty good one, even if it was probably down on a shoestring budget. Same guys who did Stakeland if I'm not mistaken, the first one being pretty good and the second one was okay.

I really like this movie. The retarded looking werewolves are kind of funny but it's still a good flick.

Well I guess these are technically movies, as they have their on entries in the database. I got on a Blade Runner kick and when I started the sequel I was reading trivia and it mentioned the new director had 2 short movies and an anime commissioned set in the time between the 1st movie and the 2nd, in one part, it helps set up why Dave Bautista was in the beginning of Blade Runner 2049.

That one is called 2048: Nowhere to run, found it easy enough. About 6 minutes long - really just once scene

Next one explains about Jared Leto and it's called 2036: Nexus Dawn, it's also short - again just once scene

Last one is an anime about the blackout (EMP wipe) that is part of the sequel called Blade Runner: Blackout 2022 it's about 15-6 minutes long.

All easy to find, easy watches. I guess if you didn't know they existed you can still enjoy the sequel (I did) but they do add some flavor to it.

The reality Experiment. -amazon prime.
Eight strangers gather for an unknown experiment at the University for a quick payday. However, things rapidly get out of control as reality itself begins to turn on them.
Kind of loved this. low budget. but has decent creature effects when it wants to. the fact there ARE creature effects, im not sure was a good idea. the justification makes some sense. but eh..
the idea is this college professor has this idea that reality is defined by collective consciousness.. (aka, the warp, the force, etc..) and he designs a device/experiment to allow a small group of people to "disconnect" and reconnect, altering reality. fantastic execution. for its budget.

reality changes around them. they can't even TELL as their memories get swiss cheesed. the movie does a great job of them remembering parts of it. like ONE person will remember a detail is wrong. but the others don't. or at times none of them notice. so we the viewer can see things changing, and they don't even notice. while still panicking about other things having changed. Like, at one point, Ruth is played by an entirely new actress. and no one in the movie notices.
