Been playing Path of Exile off and on all year, so it wins in my books. Nothing else keeps bringing me back like this game does. Their dev team really deserves as much credit as possible. They are non stop cranking out new content, skills, bug fixes, new ladder resets, microtransactions, races, etc, at a pace that should really be admired.

Gametrailer's GOTY Awards have been in full swing here:Game of the Year Awards 2013 | GameTrailers

Heh, I did not have any Gameplay problems with Ni no Kuni at all (besides the annoying hand-holding tooltip pop ups). I think people's experiences with the game's combat and such largely differ based on what Pokemons you used, because that made a huge difference in the enjoyability of it. Some seemed to work just way better with party AI and hit boxes and movement and all that crap.
Once I got my Dinoceros the game was a joke and I could focus on the story and not the shitty AI

Even without the Dino-rape-ceros (which was awesome) there were definitely pokemons that felt like they played better than other ones or that the AI used better.

man i don't even know what to say. this feels like a bland video game year for me.

1. I liked deadspace 3 for what it was, but literally the whole time i was wishing it was deadspace 1, or made by the same guys, or made with the same game concept.
2. played a fair bit of path of exile, love the game. ended up waiting out beta and playing more now. blows my mind no one made this game in the last 10 years. always wanted a true followup to diablo 2. didn't like the look of diablo 3, this sates that urge.

i think i spent the bulk of the year playing tabletop games, and random online nonsense. I played FF14 a month or two but meh, 'grind more pedo tomes" end game wasn't very entertaining. Maybe I just played old games all year. not sure. Not a lot of memorable (good games)

did sim city come out this year? that was a rancid turd of a game.

I wish the last of us would come out for PC, I certainly don't intend to buy a playstation just for one game.

This thread needs a bump so here is Giant Bomb's top 10 games of the year.....

1. The Last of Us
2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
3. BioShock Infinite
4. Gone Home
5. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
6. Assassin?s Creed IV: Black Flag
7. Dota 2
8. Divekick
9. Papers, Please

It's quite a interesting list for me considering there is no GTA or Mario. If you are interested in how they came up with the list they do a podcast of their deliberations and the link is below. The game of year segment starts at 1:09:20, oh and let me warn you the discussion is just over 2 hours long but worth it if you want some insight into how sites actually come up with some of these lists.

There is a severe lack of Fire Emblem: Awakening on these top 10 lists.

I don't mean RR posters, i mean these "big gaming site" lists lol

Having playedGone Homeyesterday, I would say that it is a very good idea for a game and an original subject matter, but I have not been overly impressed by the execution of this idea. At its core, it's a very basic first person adventure game (which surprised me as for some reason people complain it's "not a game" *shrug*) It's less flawed but also less fascinating thanKentucky Road Zero, another indie darling (Rock Paper Shotgun N?1).

I am playingAntichamberat the moment and the level of mind fucking is pretty high. I intend to playBrothers: A Tale of Two Sonsnext and with that I will more or less be done with all of the short games that ended on many of these 2013 lists.

If i owned a WiiU or a 3ds XL (both of which i plan to get soon), I am pretty sure games like Mario Land, Fire Emblem, Pokemon x/y, Zelda, SMT4 and the other great games that came out on nintendo consoles this year would have made my list.

I'm not surprised TLoU won their vote, but I am surprised only 4 out of 18 picked it for #1.

Oh wait--it's Kotaku, no I'm not.

Kotaku reader's GOTY (NB: N?2 was probably an honest submission, but pranksters jumped on it - it's an erotic visual novel, so, even if it is very good, it's unlikely enough Kotaku reader played it to make it rank so high):

the last of us, easy goty

actually the last of us won so greatly, that it made bioshock:infinite, look like dog shit, i don't even see how bioshock is even a top 5 after playing TLOU.

i mean to me, they are last years, father/daughter games, they both could have been the fucking horrible, "escort mission" games and we'd be like "holy fuck that bitch died again!"

but no, elizabeth didn't get shot up and flipped you some coin when she was bored, heck havn't had a squadmate/escort this cool since Torchlight, your dog would go back to town and sell your shit.

but fuck that, after you play TLOU after having played bioshock, elizabeth is dog shit compared to ellie.

playing TLOU basically made bioshock suck imo, it downgraded bioshock, and if you had to look at it, the environment sucked, playing infinite i just kept on thinking, "man i just want to go back to rapture", to me it just felt like they were trying to chase the success of rapture, but just sucking at it.

heck bioshock doesn't even make 2 or 3 on my list, it barely makes 5

2. asscreed4- talk about a revival, i played all ps3 asscreeds, basically desmond's trilogy, ezio was the shit, but it started to get long in the tooth when you were playing old man ezio, and it felt more like a DLC, than a game. Then you play the most boring fucking character, this dumb ass indian in asscreed3 and you wonder, why the fuck will i play asscreed4 as a stupid silly pirate? cuz if you give it a chance, it's fucking fun as shit. it's like the dev team heard us and they said, ok fuck minorities, the indian sucked ass, al'tair was a stupid arab and no one liked him, we can only do white ppl, so we'll do the whitest fuck around, an england pirate. then they said, ok fuck this dumbass doomsday, old/alien civilization storyline and the "outside" world, we'll have 99% of the game in the animus. then they said, oh... never has there ever been a successul and fun way to have naval warfare that includes sea chases, broadside cannons and pirate boarding, yea we'll do it 100% correct.

and you know what, it was just fun, just a fun fucking asscreed game with a shit load of characters that you lost track of, hell you really weren't even a dorky assassin.

3. saint's row 4 - yea so saint's row 4 isn't a great game, it is in fact a dumb game, but it's fun and you realize that. ok they try a bit too hard, but at least you get to have fun in this world. I mean it's the 4th series, and if you've played saint's row, you've probably almost played gta, and saint's row is just better. sure the graphics suck ass, they are the worst graphics compared to all the top 5 games, but it's just a fun game to play. i knew it was fun when i was like "holy shit, i can just sprint whereever i want to go , without a god damn car?" then after a while you're practically a super hero, i mean i drive to work, i drive to do errands, i don't want to fucking gta drive to have fun.

4. gta5 - the action still sucks, the aiming still sucks, it still feels clunky franklin's story was under developed, michael is obviously just a tired copy of ray liotta's character... in any ray liotta movie, and the only reason gta5 is even on here is because of trevor.

I really wanted to like the Last of Us but got about half way through and got bored. Maybe I'll pick it up again but the gameplay was a huge turn off for me. Or maybe I'll get my husband to play while I watch to I can get the story without having to actually deal with the gameplay.
