RE4 remake on PC is really good. Plays and looks amazing, and don't think it is missing anything. Granted not played the original since I had it on the wii which was really fun as it played like a RE duck hunt
As someone who hasn't played RE since 4, is this first person view new to the series? It's so weird seeing a first person RE game. From what I watched on Twitch it does seem to be pretty cool.
The story for this game requires a surprising amount of lore knowledge to make sense, I'm surprised.
If you've not played or at least read about most of the prior games including side games like Revelations, you miss out on a ton of lore reveals and info dumps.
Game has a vibe of Evil Within for the long Grace segment in the medical center with all the creepy freaky mutants and zombies, but the action parts are reminiscent of the recent remakes especially RE4 Remake since it's Leon.
I liked this game's story better than the RE7/RE8 stories about the mold, but they're all pretty high quality games in any case.
It felt like a love letter to the franchise honestly.
So Im enjoying this one. I got it on Switch because my only free time with twins is when I go to take a shit and it runs pretty good all things considered. The game plays super different depending on if you're playing as Leon or Grace. I like how you can somewhat choose how you play via the crafting system.
Bringing back the zombie disposal mechanic from the original re1 remake was a nice touch too. Overall I think they did a great job
Solid 9/10 game imo, if only they had the emily gameplay/orphanage as a cutscene it would be better. That place is just stupid, i dont care that it lasts like 10 mins its just unnecessary lol
still need to beat it on insanity so we'll see how that goes

Beat it last night, might be one of my favorite RE games. I feel like it tied the originals together nicely, and even with the
redemption arc for Spencer
it was pretty grounded (for an RE game). Took me ~11 hours according to the game to beat it, but with kids not sure how legit that is. I definitely spent a lot of time on stupid deaths. Im going to play it again for the bad ending to see how fast I can go.
There is definitely going to be DLC for it.
The Grace sections are def better in first person if you want more of a horror experience.

I would have bought it at full price had they not ripped out the Alyssa Ashcroft segments (They were tested and complete and part of the released game experience) to pitch back in as Paid DLC - more so for the ethics of that but also because reports were you could tell pacing was hit directly. So now I'll play it when it hits a sale and includes all that. Last time I saw something so blatant was when they did that in Mafia 2 (Which I loved) and they took out Joe's adventures which literally would have made that story complete.
Curious if you noticed some of the transitions were off - because in the intended experience before they ripped that out you were also supposed to play as Alyssa Ashcroft in flashback segments during Grace's sections to fill in the entire backstory of her mom.

Yep, just finished my first run, and the game is an absolute banger, but that's the only part of the game I am not looking forward to playing in future play throughs.
This is the same thing that pissed me off with the re3 remake, which started solid and then you can tell when they started phoning it in at the 2 hour mark.
I still haven’t gotten to the 4 remake, because of it
also never got around to 7 or 8, for a while I was holding out hope 7 would have VR added on
RE8 is really good, more of a first person shooter than a survival horror game. First thing I've played since Bloodborne to really capture the Bloodborne vibe. It's a good thing to rent, borrow, or get from a library and have a decent weekend run.
RE2 Remake and RE4 Remake are the other two REs I really got into. The former is more scary survival and the latter is more action and fighting. RE4R in particular is well worth playing.
RE7 is scary (good) and generally unpleasant (meh), a lot of folks swear by it, wasn't really a big fan myself.
Did a few hours of RE9. It leans heavily into the RE7 vibe with Grace and I wasn't really keen on her general helplessness and running around in circles. Takes a while for anything to happen, too, almost got bored wandering around with Grace.
The Leon sections are more like RE4 Remake and probably what the whole game should have been. Super fun when it switches to Leon. I could take or leave the Grace sections.
The best advertising I've seen for why the Switch is worth a damn at this point.
In the last few years I've seen quite a few people going on about the Switch 1 being the best system, who never play it portable and keep it in docked mode on the TV. Have to wonder what they're smoking. The only reason to have one is for the portability of it. And the first party exclusives, to an extent, which means two very overrated Zeldas and the pretty solid Metroid Dread / Mario Wonder / Mario Odyssey, all of which can be cleared inside of a few days.
If I'm at the TV, there's basically zero reason to play Switch over PS5. I tried out the new Pokemon Legends game on Switch 2 and it was like going back in time to PS2. Then I switch to PS5 and play something that looks like this:
(Yeah, I know this also has a Switch 2 version, not sure how the system managed that without catching on fire... Maybe the point is that the Pokemon Company is incredibly lazy and doesn't care about visuals)
Got the plat, 2nd run was no heal no blood speed run on casual. Gave enough points to buy infinite ammo and RPG. Insanity was easy. Bout 30 hours played all said and done, really good game but not better than RE4 remake. I would put it ahead of Village for sure.

The more I think about it, yea, parts of the game felt really disjointed. There is a flashback sequence we were talking about that should have just been a cutscene, and the gameplay is a mixture of previous versions.
Grace never gets to upgrade her guns, but can craft things to help her/
Leon can upgrade guns, but not until the back 1/3rd of the game.
There is no NG+ which is super annoying. The story, again in retrospect, doesnt make a ton of sense to me.
They are building up this whole T-virus + memory thing, to the point where the zombies actions reflect that, the main baddie is doing this whole thing with harvesting blood and its like "whoops, never mind!"
he's somehow infected with a nemesis parasite? The obvious Wesker clone has like no background info on him.
I still really enjoy it, and yea, it's an RE game so dont expect the story to make you weep. It's functional and fun, but if you were to tell me it was re-written half way through, I'd 100% believe you. Still recommend it!
As for Switch 2 performance, there were parts that definitely got choppy, but again, being able to play in bursts between my awful kids destroying the house, being able to take a dump, play it at the hospital during my surgery...it's been awesome. I think if I was in any other phase of my life, I'd be on the fuck nintendo train, but it works really well for where I am in life.
I have an OG steam deck but I dont find myself reaching for it as much.
The Big Four are Leon, Claire, Chris, Jill. Has there ever been a game where all four of them were playable, or at least were all major characters together onscreen? Maybe RE6.
