Looks like they are aiming for 1.6 being released mid July. It's implied that the xpac will release at the same time? If so, that's a much shorter time period between announcement and release of the last DLC?

pretty sure its a norm schedule - 1.6 is up on test server right now, just no dlc. They did it like this last few times i believe.

As I get older and suck more and more in normal games I have started to check all the City/Village builder type games thats more chill to play.

Rimworld has been on my radar for a while but I never looked into it really.

Whats a good way to begin this? Just get the base game? I see it has a bunch of expanions and a new one is out also.

Rimworld is and isnt a city builder game. Like.. its more about the NPC's and resource management. I mean, you build your little settlements and try to make them profitable so you can get nicer things, which is a luxury that increases happiness. But you're NPC's are finicky, and will just as quickly burn your shit down if you dont have entertainment up to their satisfaction for a long enough period of time. Or, a war happens and that takes out half your NPC's - and all of a sudden, your favorite NPC that is a stable worker bee with great skills across the board gets depression cause her husband was killed and.. now you're just in a constant battle trying to manage her depression. So I guess, in a way, its a God game too?

I mean try out the cheapest version with the most shit you can get. Or fuck, just bootleg the original and if you like it - buy the mega kit.

Everyone plays sandbox games differently, but if i were to give myself advice before playing it, i would say to play the base game and then add biotech and royalty DLC after getting to endgame.

Both of these dlc add a lot of content, but the content they add kind of removes core gameplay challenges while lengthening or broadening the game.

A core part of the game are flawed colonists who live, grow, become core part of your colony and die. Biotech makes that a problem you can overcome by making them immortal, but to do so requires an immense amount of resources suitable for the endgame. It's fun, but i never got to experience the true vision for rimworld.

I don't know about the other DLC

I really like the xenotyped in biotech. You can lean into a playstyle and loys of replay value.

Biotech and the new odyssey are my favorites.

Honestly tho, its mostly about like...expansions add scenarios and options for your base development.

Honestly maybe do base game, tribe start. Low difficulty. Then base game rich survivor start. Then appreciate the synthesis of the two and do the regular crash start.

Ask questions. Enjoy the hilarity. Once you understand the systems the nuance of ideology dlc will matter to you. Royalty as well.

You can use all yhe dlc in the game at once but its still about the scenario you choose.

Edit: anomaly is weird. Supernatural horror crazy shit. Adds a lot of "monster veriety"

Started with 3 colonists and captured and converted a 4th now for mining. Watched a few videos but still learning.

Got the basic stuff up now so time to make it a little more efficient and looking nicer. Cotton took forever to farm, still half naked people running around.

one of the big things to learn are surrounding the mechanics of combat and medical stuff.

basically it's vital you make some medical beds, or sleeping spots designated for medical. in a clean spot with a real floor. when some one is injured treat them even if it sounds gimpy. don't waste your good medicine (you can change them to herbal medicine only under assign).

you're trying to avoid infection. if you have some one infected it's vital you manually force people to treat them every time it lets you. keep the immunity higher than the infection rate or they will die. naturally if you have a doctor and put his doctoring at priority 1, and nothing else he should do it anyway barring sleep. but wake a doc up to treat an inffection every time.

the other is that cover is VERY good. take cover behind stone squares or sandbags if you can.

gunners don't use guns in close combat. so if you can force gunners to blind aproach, they are bait for melee men. barring a few mobs or guys with cyberweapons installed, gunners are chumps when a melee men goes at them.

if you find uranium. a uranium mace is better than any melee weapon you'll get till you're packing late game weapons. if you can steal a shield (like a dune shield) from a monster or trade for oen they are solid gold for fighting mobs of tribals

Been playing on Adventure difficulty and so far it's been going ok. I had 3 people getting frag grenades or something yesterday and they got mega injured, but everyone survived luckily.

Only thing I can't seem to keep up with right now are Components, mined the ones I could search for on map but now I'm all out.

Started making Cloth Pants and Button Down Shirts and Cowboyhats/Duster from Alpacas. Not sure whats the best in the early game though. Also just started being able to make some Flak Armor and that Uranium Mace.

Whats the best Clothes to make as you progress?

My whole complex is wood, might need to replace into Granite or something.

For getting components, make something high value to sell/trade and buy them from traders or other settlements around you that will trade with you. Just don't keep too many high value things in your colony, the difficulty of the raids you get are based on the wealth your colony possesses, the more wealth you have the bigger the raids are.

Clothes don't really matter that much, they're mainly used for temperature regulation. Dusters and cowboy hats will keep you cool, parkas and beanies/toques will keep you warm. You'll eventually want to progress to flak jackets/pants/helmets and past that marine/cataphract armor in the later game. Putting helmets on all your guys is real useful for keeping them alive.

100% replace all the wood walls in your settlement asap, wood burns easily and isnt as strong as stone. The fire risk is the main issue with wood walls though.

Found some space debris and also traded for components. Sold some Alpacas. Only need to find plasteel now for flak gear.

Got almost wasted last raid so now I am trying some kill corridor with traps and if they get through I start blasting them.

Well my first run feels bricked.

Went pretty well, had 6 colonists and a proper base with a kill corridor as defense. Then some psychic drone asshole landed and started mess shit up. Powered through it anyways but then I got the flu in the colony and during that my doctor got the plague and died. Then the drone started fucking everyone up so I decided to attack it.

Some Banshee and two Tanks came out and nuked another colonist.

Think I will start over with "learning mode" difficulty instead. I just want to learn the basics first and then I can add danger stuff.

Yeah, playing on no threats mode isn't a bad idea until you get the hang of the basics. You will lose colonists though in any run where there are threats, it is almost inevitable. Part of the game is building back up after you get fucked and it feels pretty good to overcome what at first feels like something that will end your run.

There's a guy on Youtube called AdamvsEverything, he's really good at RimWorld and has tons of videos from full stream vods to edited vods to videos about specific topics like kill boxes and other useful things to know. Might be worth checking out if you want to pick up some tips about the game.

It's a really fun and addicting game and the replay-ability is one of the best things about the game, especially once you start adding the DLCs in. There are so many different ways to play and different biomes to play in. Were you playing just the base game or do you have any of the DLC yet?
