The base feels good now. Might try my hand in some caravans, only ever did one to save a guy.

Its damn addictive to play this game.

Also felt I was cruising along then some Boom rat went into my kill area and burned almost everything down. Now its remade with granite all the way!

So I see why I should fire proof a bit more.
Nothign like boomrats and boomalopes in this game.

I have this t shirt.

Components are definitely scarce at times and you learn to be frugal with them. Don't go nuts on autodoors, early on I limit those to freezer entry only. Lot of other doors can just be switched to "leave open" most of the time so they don't slow people down but still have a thermal isolation effect.

If you haven't yet, start cutting exploratory tunnels into all of the remaining mountains, more components can be hidden inside them.

Doubling up walls and making a simple airlock (door-one space-door) will lower the cooling requirements for the freezer room. Doors insulate less than walls so ideally a freezer should have only one entrance. This also avoids people pathing through it on their way to another place (each time the door opens you lose some of the cold). Sometimes it's still worth it to have another one to optimize walking distance (like I did below, direct path from fields to kitchen and cooler and to the dining room).

A lot of Rimworld play is about optimizing the use of time, avoiding unnecessary walking means you get more done.

Thanks for the tips.

I had some malfunction and one AC got damaged and one heater also. Could only afford to repair the AC for the freezer due to lacking components. So kinda need to find some asap, will try mining into mountains!

Opened up the ancient danger and killed some bugs in there, unlocked the pods and they started blasting each other lol.

Got an Assault Rifle, 2 Shotguns and some flak gear and an Advanced Component. Not the best loot but still something.

Was just going to check out that ancient danger at 1 am but ended up playing until 4am... Good thing its vacation.

Just scrolled back a few pages and saw your Mother of God base. Thats what I want in my mind then when I build it looks like shit lol.

Lotsa Boom animals there, would be awful if something made them go off...

Haha I try not to look at people's final bases when learning a new game like this. It's demotivating and it's more fun to learn good base design from your own experiences than to observe it in other bases. There are a lot of details that go into base design, and a good player like yourself will most of them just playing the game.

That video shows my 3rd (and final) base, your bases look much better than my first base!

The boomalopes going off is a survivable event, the generators are spaced far enough away to mitigate a chain reaction, and my colonists are strong enough to not die from it. There are many ways to get a ton of energy, boomalopes are my favorite animals in Rimworld so I built around them.

a thing i tend to do is i go into the "assign" tab, and add fire-foam pop-packs to all the outfits except melee dudes who get shields. that way whenever a random fire happens. even a non combat pawn can just walk over and pop foam on the fires without skipping a beat. it helps to curb the super-heated critical phase of fires before it starts.

odysey is extremely good. It really changes up your gameplay loop because you get to 'see the world' and pilage maps of wildlife/ore then fly away to the next place. you can always escape from bullshit invasions, provided you're ready to blast off and have your fuel topped off.

downsides are the severely limited space (on the ship). need to build some things in a quirky way, and since you're growing crops mostly in hydroponic basins, if you stop to 'stock up' on crops, slow crops like corn may not be 'done' when the mechs find you again. You also can't take advantage of a super defensive 'spot' on the map because your ship gets bigger and bigger. and player-built strucutres block landing. you can squash junk, animals and trees, but not so much as a sandbag.

Space is kind of quirky to build for. your ship being safe in space i mean.

basically i think odysey expands the scope of the game more than any of the others. so far for me Odysey and Biotech are my favorates for interesting game play.

I think that Anomaly has been my favorite DLC, it just completely changed how I'd go about setting things up and daily life and the ever present threat of having "The Thing" amongst my colonists gave everything a much crazier atmosphere. Odyssey looks like it'll pan out to be pretty fun and the grav ship also takes on a whole new leaning curve but the only big complaint that I ever have with Rimworld is that the devs build in weird Ai cheats rather an just letting the idiosyncrasies run rampant and allowing that to be an additional level of fun but that's what makes it Rimworld.

Rimworld is an unavoidable dick punch that just keeps getting more and more severe as you delay it by mastering mechanics, eventually you get overwhelmed and it's going to hit you so hard that you can't get back up again whereas a game like Kenshi is a billion tiny dick punches all at once then constantly at regular intervals that help build up your tolerance to dick punches until you start punching the AI in the dick. I've generally leaned more into Kenshi's attitude of the world being unfair to both player and game rather than Rimworld which stacks difficulty exclusively against the player

I saw it got quite the revival with the newest DLC, peak concurrent players on Steam.

Will probably practice a bit more on my current base thats stable right now then buy the Odyssey DLC and try it out.
