Saw someone mention the problems with SR2 on some machines, those aside, is $15 a pretty good price for it? Wonder if there will be a Steam pack sale of 2 and 3 before the release or if I missed that.
Get the Gentlemen of the Row mod-pack for it:

As well as all the extra content, it's got a whole fucking bunch of bug fixes and optimisation included.

"One of the more ambitious ideas cut from Saints Row 4 - like the game's nixed flying, fire-breathing dragon - was a three minute Bollywood-style song and dance number planned for the end of the game, Volition creative director Steve Jaros said at Comic-Con today."

My god. what did we miss out on?

Also, Volitions next game, Singham?

I used to play VtM with Steve, he's pretty awesome. He's also a pretty mean rock band vocalist.

Is SR2 as insane as SR3? I am enjoying the shit out of SR3 and thought about trying SR2.

Got SR3 for free on Playstation Plus and played the shit out of it (Platinumed it). It was a ton of fun, but I hope they made some improvements for IV. For instance, while driving against traffic and getting near-misses kind of made every drive potentially somewhat productive, they can take it further and give you bonuses for maintaining high speed, setting records when driving down paths you've driven before, randomly appearing coins on the road, stuff like that. Also, because I made an effort to do all the side missions, property purchases and gang takeovers before focusing on the story missions, I was damn near invincible by the time I reached the end of the game. It was nice not to have to stress about dying and re-doing stuff, but when it's almost impossible to lose much of the thrill is lost, you know? I did appreciate the invincibility when it came to doing the survival stages, though. Those were a bitch otherwise. I also saw little reason to use all the weapons at my disposal, several of which got completely ignored. I'm looking forward to IV, but I honestly don't mind waiting for it to come out for free on PS Plus whenever. Got SR2 for free too but didn't get into it because it had no trophies. Weird how this meta-game system that didn't exist when i was a kid can now occasionally be the deciding factor on whether or not I play a game.

No.

I would say SR1 and SR2 have a more GTA like feeling to them. They still had a great story and the gameplay was still good, but I would not call it insane. Though it might be fun to go back and see how it evolved because each game gets crazier.

I enjoyed SR3 through the Angel intro mission which was shortly after the big building explosion with the big naked guy and the FBI chick on the barge. All epic and well done.

Then you rescue the sex dungeon guy (unless i got that out of order but w/e) and the game goes to shit. It felt like the game was nothing but a bunch of shitty side missions very shortly after that. Totally screwed with the flow of the game and turned me off. Overall I thought that game was pretty over rated in general as a result. Great first half and the rest was just meh.

Heh, exactly the same here - started playing it just for the hell of it because of it being free on PS+ and dammit I'm a goddam fan now. (Even plunked down cash for the PSN avatar pack - Genki's Ethical is just too beautiful to not be my PSN Avatar - GODDAM I LOVE GENKI)

SR4 is going on my preorder queue as soon as I get by the Gamestop again. Gonna feel weird and hard to decide which to play first for the August 20 games - leaning towards SR4 first though. Was hilarious how much time I'd lose track of in the process of platinuming SR3 - wife left in the early afternoon tells me to feed the dogs at 6pm - she calls at 7:30 to make sure I did and damned if it didn't feel like she'd just left an hour ago.

At least I'll say that besides the damn Heli Assault missions (especially the Kynzie ones.... screw those in the ear... same with the Condor vehicle theft thing had like 10 HP or something shot down right at the dropoff like 5 times without a scratch the entire way).

Adding to this, if you're playing on PC, I've heard SR2 was a horrendous port and may not be worth the time. Not sure if mods fixed it up or not, I didn't feel the need to go backwards after SR3 :p looking forward to 4 though.

I've been playing through SR2 on PC the last few days. TheGentlemen of the Rowmod pack that Itzena posted has helped out a ton. There is also a fairly extensiveSteam threadwith lots of good information that has helped fix a few extra issues. But it is pretty easy to tell that the original part had to have been complete garbage.

A couple people on Reddit added up the actual cost of all those items, and found buying them all separately would cost, at most, about $675,000. So, Deep Silver will get a nice chunk of change there if someone does buy it. However, my guess is anyone that has enough money to throw $1 million at something like this is also shrewd enough to know that it's a bad deal.

Of course, this is mostly just meant as a marketing stunt anyways.

Sold.... Ok... not really... but it does sound like a cool experience.
