No clue, but it says that the system would require some sort of specialized receiver in the home. So surely if they can beam a gigabit speed from their end, the receiver should be set up to beam it back? Latency could be the biggest issue, rather than raw throughput, this sounds like satellite internet on steroids, with 2 devices pointed at each other beaming a signal back and forth.

There was a time when we were looking at implementing WiMAX mesh networks that would cover entire cities. Not sure where that shit ever went, I wonder if it's the same.

It's all speculation because google isn't even saying what they're doing.

I can't wait for the cable operators to get some serious competition. There is a ton of profit on the Internet side of the business and lots of room for prices to fall. The early attempts at wireless might not sway the gigabit, twitch fps users but competition is coming over the next decade or so and these technologies will get better and better.

Being able to bypass the clusterfuck of laying new fiber/cable lines would certainly open up competition and force the current regimes to reinvent themselves.

I think I'll keep it. Not getting 1000, but it consistently speed tests from like 500-800ish

Awesome side note, they just upgraded all of their TV boxes to include Google Cast technology...basically each of the TV boxes in your home act as a Google Chromecast...I can just cast straight to the TV box, no changing inputs on the TV to the chromecast. When I hit the "cast" button on my laptop or mobile device, all the TVs in my home pop up on the list to cast to. Pretty damn sweet.
Jealous, so so jealous. Grats joeboo! You've waited so long for this moment! So other than download speeds have you noticed a difference with the extra speed? Netflix loads faster, stuff streams better? that type of thing? Or is it just business as usual?

Everything I've watched on Netflix starts to load at 1%, jumps straight to 99%, and then plays. I'd say time from pressing "play" on the remote to the movie actually playing is about 2 seconds.

I know Youtube basically just flat-out won't let you buffer 100% of a video from the start, but it's funny to watch the buffering status bar. Video starts, buffer is instantly at about 25% loaded...couple seconds in and it pops instantly up to 50%, a few more seconds and it pops instantly to full. I don't really even see the progress bar moving on the video loading, its just skip....skip...done

Yeah having a shitty ping with that bandwidth is like having a 12 inch cock that has the diameter of a pencil. Looks great on paper but it's worthless in practice.

Playstation Vue users are getting a decent update today.http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/...s-for-ps4-ps3/

-Now on Android
-Thumbnail view in the guide now
-Quick navigation aka Last Channel etc.
-Performance improvements
-Amazon Fire TV will be getting 60fps video output
Anyone use Vue? It looks dope as hell, but after all the complaints with SlingTV I wanted to wait for wider adoption before trying it out.

So I have Optimum under Cablevision and they've been great, but they got bought out by some company called Altice. Apparently they've bought up others and are interested in even Time Warner Cable.

Anyone know anything about them and what to expect?

I just got an email from Comcast highlighting the amazing new Terabyte Internet Experience.

...and by that, they mean they are enforcing caps now. It's $10 for 50GB or we can pay an extra $50/month for unlimited data. I'm not at the cap, but it still bothers me that they are doing this. I really wish competition existed.
