Necro time.

I've been using my supply of Jeremy's razors for the past year and I'm almost out (I tend to buy in bulk during sales), but for reasons that don't belong in non-political areas I'm no longer comfortable with giving them money.

In the past I've used both Harry's and Dollar Shave Club. Both of those sort of sucked, and I won't be giving Harry's any money ever again either. Another was Dorco maybe? Wasn't bad but not even sure if they exist anymore.

Anyone know of a shave club/subscription that has actual decent products, and has no agenda? I've looked a bit, but other than the ones above it comes back to the Gillette/Schick/big name choice, which are usually ridiculously expensive or ridiculously terrible if you buy their cheap version.

Before people suggest it, I tried the safety razor thing and while it isn't terrible, I wasn't really a fan of it either because I also shave my entire head at the same time, and the knicks/burns were a lot more prevalent. Skill issue, I know, but still. I'm fine with spending a few bucks a month for something easy and convenient, I'd just prefer it not to go to fund people I don't agree with. Which is almost everyone except FoH, so when are we making our own shave club???
I've mostly gone to an actual safety razor. I use regular over the shelf shaving foam though. The soaps and stuff are just a pain in the ass and don't seem to give as nice of a shave.

This is what I like to use.

Could try this but again it's a safety style razor.

I use a nice beard trimmer to get it short. Then another electric to mostly shave and finish with a safety razor.

I did some more googling and found a bunch of "patriotic" offerings, but even those were made in China and didn't have the greatest reviews. Ended up just looking for blades made in the USA, and found a few, and after searching for their products I found this one that I ordered and am going to give it a try. Pretty cheap, decent reviews, and made in USA. I'll let you guys know how they feel after I've used them a few times.

I have one of those lawnmower trimmers and it's okay. I use it for my beard and to shave down the rest then finish it off with a safety razor as well. Works great.

I don't usually read or post outside of work hours, but I had to this time.

I just used those new blades for the first time. For background, I went longer without shaving this time, so it had been a full week between shaves, and I always do my face and my head in the shower. My face doesn't grow very thick or long relatively speaking, but by the end of the week it is a pretty solid growth. My head, at least what I have left (my forehead goes about halfway to the crown of my head, if that helps) isn't coarse or thick, but solid enough where there is hair, particularly the back. Normally when I shave I use the razor like I linked above in the shower, then since I always miss a spot or another area just isn't getting it all and I don't want razor burn I touch up with an electric razor after my shower.

That being said, I barely had to do any touch up with this razor. I'm not kidding, holy shit, this is the best razor blade I have ever used. By a lot. The thickest area is the back of my head, and one swipe was all it took to completely shave each area. I even purposely did more before rinsing than I usually do, and even "clogged" it was clearing areas easily. When I am done shaving I then stick my head under the water and swipe off all the shaving cream with my hands, and I can feel the areas I missed, slightly rough areas, etc. This time, my hand was actually sort of sticking to my head and face because it was so smooth. Like some sort of hydrostatic force or some shit was making my hand want to suck down to my skin because there was no deviations in the surface area. You'll think I'm joking, but I'm really not. It was fucking amazing. The touch up was more an exercise in hunting for an area that needed touching up than actually doing anything.

Now, is this the typical "put the awesome blade in the free handle and then all the refills are worse" tactic? Maybe. I won't know until I use this one up and try another one. And the longevity of the blades, no clue yet because I only used it once. But there was a noticeable difference in the shaving feel as it sliced through the hair compared to anything else I've used. It felt like it just went straight through with no pulling, but it still pulled it up enough for the following blade to slice it off below the surface. I'm fucking amazed, seriously. This one is 5 blades, and the Jeremy's that I've been using is also 5 blades, so same comparison there, and this is light years better than Jeremy's.

Full transparency, the handle is nothing special, but works fine and I never thought about it after I started using it. It angles all over as needed ("floating ball" technology they call it), is sturdy enough, and for $20 you can get a new one for virtually nothing every 13 blades. The handle is made in China, and the materials for the blades are "imported" but assembled in the USA. So, not entirely "Made in USA" as I first thought, but still better than nothing, and for that price and quality, unless the other 12 blades are absolute shit, I don't foresee ever needing to find someone else ever again. Hell, they are cheaper than Dollar Shave Club I'm pretty sure, and vastly cheaper than just about anyone else. The only area it lacks is the handle, and Jeremy's has a fucking great handle, I'll give them that, but this one works perfectly well, for now at least.

tl;dr these are the best fucking blades I've ever used, for pretty much the lowest price too, and if you are even slightly considering a change, you should try them.

I got tired of spending a ton of cash chasing the best razor. I use the Amazon Basics one now and am happy. Only shave once a week any way.

After years of overpaying for Gilette Fusion Five Razor blades I made the switch to this. A two to three year supply of razors is $10. You can also buy replacement blades for life for $50.

I love it, I might buy the AL13-M for a more aggressive shave and give this one to one of my kids.

Those look almost exactly like the razors I bought, linked above. I got 12 refills for $20, you got 16 for 2 bucks more. I'd bet they are even interchangeable, because the head attachment looks identical. As I posted, I'm super happy with the performance of the one I tried so far, but I wonder if they are the exact same blades or not. The motion ball thing on the handle is even identical. If the blades aren't made by the same people I won't switch, but if they are, why not? I wonder if there is a way to tell.

Just to follow up on the blades/handle I bought, which I'll link again to save someone new the effort of scrolling up to a previous post.

I went ahead and swapped out the cartridge that was already in the handle for a random one from one of the refills, in case it was one of those bait and switch scams, and it was exactly as amazing as the first one. My head literally squeaked when rinsing it under the shower, the shave is that close.

I've never paid a wise old black man to shave me in a barber shop while helping me solve life problems, but short of that this is the best shave I've ever gotten, bar none.

The only unknown at this point is longevity, but I typically only use them 4-6 times a month and then swap them out anyway, so if they last that long I'm golden. I have like 4 refills of the Jeremy's razors left, and I don't want to use them now!

Since prices never go down, I am seriously contemplating buying like 5 or even 10 years worth of these and just putting them in a plastic container under the sink, that's how much I already love these. They come sealed so they shouldn't rust over time anyway.
