That's what we had before. They all break within a year or two. Problem with the cable that goes to the screen getting pulled loose and there's no way to get to it.
What is your mom doing with her phone?

Mine have always been indestructable. I keep them for years, a decade sometimes, until a network upgrade forces me to get a new flip phone that is similarly indestructable.

Once could be a fluke. If its happened more than once, IMO you should investigate WTF is going on. They don't normally break, ever.

Kharzette Kharzette update? Got moms all sorted ?
It has been allright. The spam filtering stuff works pretty good. Any call not from her contacts gets an immediate hangup. Sometimes there's a tiny hint of a ring and the screen does turn on for a bit, but it isn't bad.

She had a spill and tumble down the front steps last week so we had a long ER day and another in the hospital. I spent most of both days using the phone and it never missed a beat, which made me think most of the problems are just handling it with the screen on and touching randomly.

If you google around, it is a big problem with nokia flip phones. There's a small cable that connects the screen that goes thru the hinge and it gradually pulls loose.

It was an OK phone while it lasted, but she never used the contacts, just manually dialed everything.

I've used nokia flip phones for the last 20+ years and never had it happen. I abuse the shit out of these phones. One fell in the toilet (yes). One fell in saltwater. I drop them almost daily.

I've never managed to make one stop working.

I believe you that its happened but I'm just really curious why it would happen repeatedly to one user and never for another user. Something different about the phones or about how they're used?

The only guess I have is it might be related to her hobby. She loves to crack pecans. We have 2 pecan trees and people in town bring her bags full of them. Cracking those alot releases a little bit of this fine dust that probably doesn't help.

I used to do that for this old lady on my street WAY back when I was a kid. She'd make awesome pecan pie.

Which you apparently hate?

What's so special about "Samsung hardware"?

It's generally just plain better than Google's. Better quality screens, more powerful AND efficient SoC, and especially for the last few Pixels with Google's Tensor SoC; a better modem. Ironically, Pixels use a Samsung modem for the Tensor models while Samsung uses Qualcomm modems that are part of the Snapdragon SoCs.

But does it make a difference while you're using it? or are you just reading specs? To me phones are 100% a commodity these days. Even the cheap phones are good enough that you're not really going to have any complaints using them day to day.

I'm enough of a nerd to notice. The better software on the Pixel still overcomes the hardware advantage on the Samsungs for me.

Forgot another thing that is easier for people to notice. The Pixel 10 uses a PowerVR GPU, which isn't great and isn't even supported by some games. That's a difference that easy enough for normies to notice when the store won't even let you install some higher end games on it.
