Likewise, poor calls from the referee against Uniteds favour. Furthering Jones - his entire job was to keep Ronaldo quiet. You have to have a man on that guy, no matter what team you are, otherwise he scores too freely. He still managed to get the goal from some insane leap, that man is so good. But Jones should probably be exempt from critique in regards to helping build the forward play. Sure, a world class midfield could do both (Keane?), but... I'll forgive him for now, he's been doing the job over Bale, then Fellaini and now Ronaldo. It's a bit of a new role for the lad since his return.
It would be wiser look at the link up play between Welbeck, Rooney, Kagawa and Carrick. Carrick had a good game, Kagawa - well I missed a portion of first half so I'll reserve comment other than he was a bit easy to push over, but Rooney? Poor. Worked hard, but, didn't give us the outlet required to get the ball forward - much like you saw from him in WC2010 when everyone slated him. Welbeck on other hand worked hard and coupled it with passing tidily, help build play AND score a goal.
I'd say SAF is totally justified with Jones's current role and maybe he'll get better in possession. Will he do it again at OT? United could be far more adventurous behind their home crowd, SAF has bottled it on a few occasions (most recently against City at Eastlands last season), but with a full squad of defenders present he could perhaps rely on them more.
