Bookies have Moyes as the favourite, his odds started tumbling bigtime last night which suggests either a) insider knowledge or b) a lot of fuckwits!

Oh come on

Moyes? Man Utd?

I mean, he is a good manager and all that but we are talking about one of the largest football clubs in the world here. Moyes hasn't even won a trophy yet in his career. I don't know how that will go down with Utd supporters and playing staff.

BBC are probably cherry picking what they put up but support for him has been fairly consistent (and always has been when this kind of question has come up on there) and come on, it's not like he could win a trophy at Everton without some luck. He hasn't had Spurs type transfer money to squander

RedFace mentioning Gill in his retirement statement reminds me he is also leaving in the Summer. All change indeed!

I can't believe Moyes will be ahead of Mourinho in the pecking order if they are both available

Mourinho always said he was interested in the Utd job and the way he complimented them in the aftermath of the Utd - Real CL game indicated he was very keen on the job

Maybe Mou in as manager and Moyes as assistant

Oh I completely agree with you there, the potential problem with that is good old Benitez hinted very loudly yesterday that the new Chelsea manager was a done deal and used wording along the lines of "You all know who he is" but then clammed up of course when the press *ahem* pressed him.

Edit: here we gohttp://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22435003
Speaking on Tuesday, Benitez, who will leave Chelsea when the current campaign ends, said: "The next year there will be another manager. I think everybody knows who will be here.

On a serious note, is he the greatest ever?

"In nine years as manager, Paisley led Liverpool to win twenty honours - six First Division Championships, three League Cups, six FA Charity Shields, three European Cups, one UEFA Cup and one UEFA Super Cup. He is often cited as one of the greatest football managers of all time, and is to date the only manager in history to have won three European Cups."

Football League First Division (6): 1975-76, 1976-77, 1978-79, 1979-80, 1981-82, 1982-83
League Cup (3): 1980-81, 1981-82, 1982-83
FA Charity Shield (6): 1974, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1982
European Cup (3): 1976-77, 1977-78, 1980-81
UEFA Cup (1): 1975-76
UEFA Super Cup (1): 1977

20 trophies in 9 seasons

Premier League (13): 1992-93, 1993-94, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2002-03, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2010-11, 2012-13
FA Cup (5): 1989-90, 1993-94, 1995-96, 1998-99, 2003-04

FA Charity/Community Shield (10): 1990 (shared), 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011

Intercontinental Cup (1): 1999
FIFA Club World Cup (1): 2008

38 in 26.

Yes I'm a Liverpool fan but surely the obvious answer is Paisley. How many attempts as Ferguson had at the European Cup over the years, 3 in 9 attempts blows anything he's achieved away.

Also worth remembering that Ferguson won nothing for the first 3 seasons and there were banners at Old Trafford calling for him to leave. He was fortunate that his winning of the title coincided with Sky pumping massive amounts of money into the game and rewarding success like never before. What could Paisley have achieved if given similar backing compared to the relatively level playing field of the 70s?

How can you even compare the wasteland that was football in the '70s to todays football?
hahaha utter fail for being a predictable idiot

http://www.talksport.co.uk/magazine/...ievemen-184769

"ome like to argue that the modern Champions League, in which the stronger countries are permitted to enter more than one club to the competition, and also includes a group stage, is tougher to win than the old, straight knockout European Cup, but arguments can be made for the strength of both formats. Under the more stringent entry regulations of the old European Cup, for example, Manchester United - having finished runners up to Arsenal in the previous season's Premiership - would not have even been in the 1998/99 tournament, which they memorably won under Ferguson's management.

Likewise, if the Champions League is much more difficult to win than the old European Cup, why did a comparatively poor Liverpool team win the tournament in 2005, finishing fifth in the Premier League having finished just fourth the season before? By contrast, the 1978/79 Liverpool team - back-to-back defending European champions and a side that would win the First Division at a canter that campaign, conceding just 16 goals in 42 games - was knocked out of the European Cup in the first round, having had the misfortune to be drawn against English champions Nottingham Forest (there being no protective seeding or group games to protect the big clubs).

The competition's format has certainly changed over the years, but one thing has remained consistent: it is an extremely difficult trophy to win. That is why Bob Paisley's three European Cups in just nine years (eight, considering Liverpool had no qualified for the tournament in his first season in charge) is a remarkable rate of success that Sir Alex Ferguson - no matter how incredible his career - will never match."

By wasteland do you mean a comparitively level playing field when clubs were not bankrolled by Russian Oligarchs, Arab Sheiks or US Billionaires? When football games were not televised at all let alone beamed out to every corner of the globe? When clubs didn't even have sponsors on their shirts, compared to today when Utd have official Turkish credit card partners and the subs bench is sponsored?

Absolute idiot, fuck off.
