I don't wedge myself into the corner without moving, I just stay close to it so that im killing a decent chunk of stuff as soon as it spawns.I honestly don't know how Gavin can stay in a corner. If I'm not constantly moving I get the shit blown out of me. The stuns/slows after getting hit sometimes are literally a killer. Am I missing some sort of mechanic or strategy that makes cornering viable?
Also, these types of games are the only ones where I reliably use a controller over k/m. I'm actually happy to be getting some use out of my controller for a change. Do most of you play with k/m? (I see the space button for dash in some of the screenshots, whereas mine says RB.)
Yes! its not just hitbox, there is a lot of physics to it, swings and what not.Maybe I'll have to practice the corner thing more. Half the time in this game I feel like if I'm not constantly running for my life I'm going to get nuked.
I think one of the fastest boss-killing builds is minions. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like whenever I have minions they just rape the bosses. Sure, I've done some decent weird combos like Doom stacks that seem to eventually add up and just vaporize the boss, but in terms of reliability (and not having to be right up on the boss as Kyougou mentioned), minions seem to be very strong.
EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention my favorite thing in this entire game. Running into minions doesn't automatically damage you. That's so fucking huge. I hate the games where it does that, then you're basically required to get a build that vaporizes shit before it touches you. This one they have to swing and hit in melee for you to take damage, and I can't begin to express how awesome that is.
Inspired by your run I tried to grab a similar build. Still only 11:21 but it wasn't optimal.Had a heartbreaking 10:03 earlier, but I finally did it!

I've found that the biggest factor in sub-10 for me is a) early clear times, and b) zeroing in on the boss as quickly as possible. For b, sometimes I go the total wrong way and lose valuable seconds running back. For a, some of the starter weapons just can't clear fast enough early on it seems. I absolutely LOVE the guy with the circle of fire, but he starts fairly slow. Granted, getting lucky with power choices immediately is huge too, but if I'm pushing 5 minutes to spawn the first boss, there's no way in hell I'm getting a fast run. The first guy's basic weapon, whirlwind, seems to reliably give me the fastest starts. It is weird though, I almost feel bad using the "starter" weapons. Like there is no way they can be as good and I should never use them once I get the upgrade.
I have been using Gavin's corner strat, and I agree, once I realized what he meant it is clearly the best way to go. I'm also convinced minions are OP. This run I only had two, but I also got lucky to get all shadow options and a few of the epic/legendary choices for Shadow and Magic. Might have got a couple for area as well. Bosses were just disintegrating to the minions. Look at that damage disparity. Sure, I got the minions first, but the others weren't that far behind. Void (the skill, not me!) apparently sucks for dps.
Wow, you got some good crit chance/damage rolls there.View attachment 438841
Finally a sub 10 minute run!
Only took me 19 hours of game time. Can't wait for the early access!
It's already a lot more robust than pretty much anything else I've seen in the genre and they're one of the few who actually put serious effort into the graphics, even if it eventually just devolves into PARTICLE EFFECTS EVERYWHERE until you get frustrated and turn the opacity all the way down.I'll obviously end up buying it anyway, but ten bucks is a bit steep for a game like this.

This game isn't slacking in the graphics department, is decently advanced already, is pretty fun, and is only 4 bucks. Don't get me wrong, I get your point and feel I will easily get $10 worth of enjoyment out of Soulstone, but I still feel they are about double what they should be if they want to catch the particular crowd that plays these games. I pretty much don't even blink at buying a game under $5, but over that I actually think about it for a second at least. It's already a lot more robust than pretty much anything else I've seen in the genre and they're one of the few who actually put serious effort into the graphics, even if it eventually just devolves into PARTICLE EFFECTS EVERYWHERE until you get frustrated and turn the opacity all the way down.
