I'm through 3 episodes, and I just don't care about any of this anymore. At least with The Bear I could fall back on just watching actors that I really like do their thing, but I'm just so tired of watching Lee Jung-jae run around in extreme anger / disappointment / whatever. It's like watching Mel Gibson limp from scene to scene in Payback.

The more screen time the VIPs get, the worse it gets. Feels like I'm watching a parody of the first season or something at this point, with no benefit of the initial shock, a more concise story, etc.

Keep watching. It does improve some. You would not guess the ending from the beginning.

I liked it. It had some moments that seemed stupid but over all, I thought it ended well. It left an opening of sorts. This is important in that there have been discussions of more variants of the show in other countries. The surprise cameo was a ...what?? moment, that further illustrated this possibility.

The jump rope game was a bitch. There is no way I am crossing a chasm 6 stories up with no rails, much less having to jump to avoid the rope. I kind of figured 456 might sacrifice given all he had been through. He was already in bad shape from the first games. He just wanted to make sure that the baby survived as perhaps a way of redeeming himself a little bit.

My opinion is quite similar to Mahes', I did enjoy season 2 and this feels just like the second half of season 2 (which it is, really), so it's just more of the same. There are a few contrived/plot moments that feel a bit odd but I think it's more of a cultural difference because it's a korean show than really bad writing, they tend to sometimes use tropes that we find overused or cliché in a totally straight manner.

Also went flat "wat" at the surprise cameo at the end haha.

If you don't like to watch people limping, Squid Game 3 is definitely not for you! XD

Moderate spoilers below..

I liked the new games, they didn't just go the Saw route of coming up with just more sadistic/twisted games, they changed the way the games work by pitting the two "clans" against each other a lot more than before, even though some people change sides almost every game, in the end several games could have been won much more easily if the people had teamed up. In fact, this time the games could have ended with a LOT more living players if they had been more inclined to cooperate instead of being greedy and trying to rack up more money by killing other players for no other reason than cash, but that was the whole point of these games, showing how greedy (some, most) people can get.

Big spoilers below, don't read really if you haven't finished the season.

One thing I thought was quite silly was the turn to the dark side of 333 (the baby's father/crypto currency guy). I get that he was never really a standup boyfriend / future father to 222/her baby, and he never really attempts to help 222 during the rope jump game and leaves her to die, but during the last game he reveals he's the father and rightfully attempts to save himself with the baby, but then 2 minutes later he's threatening to toss her off the platform, makes Anakin's fall to the dark side look like a long and deep Shakespeare tragedy in comparison. I get that he needed to die but that seemed cartoonishly evil.

456's sacrifice seemed inevitable. There really was no way to "win" against the Squid Game organization, it's too powerful. Throughout season 2/3, Front Man tries to "break" 456's faith in humanity, and nearly succeeds. It is shown through flashbacks that Front Man's own humanity was basically taken away by his time in the games, in fact it was so thoroughly destroyed he joined the organization himself and went on to lead the games. I think he sees a lot of his former self in 456 and he wants to crush that spark of faith in humanity because he wants to believe he couldn't have done better, that he couldn't have been a better man at the time, that he did the right thing.. and in the end, 456 "wins" by sacrificing himself and being the better man. That's why Front Man decides to get 456's remaining prize money and gives it to his daughter, as recognition that he really won and was the better man. But the games continue.

Do they kill the stupid fucking tranny? I can't stand that character.
Of course they kill him. The first season had one winner. It goes to reason that the formula would stay pretty close to the same. This show one ups Game of Thrones in that everybody can die and most do. I can go further in explaining the end if you want, but I assume you might watch it.

If you're quick on the mute button with the VIPs, the show improves tremendously.

no idea how the VIPs didn't end up on the cutting room floor. I would guess it has something to do with Season 4's direction

It killed scenes. Even fast with the mute and cutting their dialogue didn't salvage it due to what was on screen.

They really should be completely edited out.

I have my doubts. The atmosphere in the show was a very large part of why I think the show was popular. The quirky music and the settings both helped a lot. I guess you could do some Metallica version of the game, but then it kind of takes out the "kid's games" element. Then it just becomes a modern gladiator arena with games instead of direct fighting.

We know one actress involved. I do like a lot of what she does. I am extremely cautious....

The fact that the "american cameo" was playing the regular korean game used for recruiting players could be an indication they're not going to fully americanize the content of the games, but simply moving the organization elsewhere to let the authorities cool down in South Korea. The cameo-recruiter also apparently knew Front Man's face, so he must be quite involved in the development of the american Squid Games, we can assume he remains director.

With Fincher at the helm and depending on the cast, I might give this enough benefit of the doubt to start watching an american version, but I too have my doubts. Plus Squid Game was pretty good because it was overall a short phenomenon and a lot of the impact was due to shock and awe, but it shouldn't outstay its welcome or dillute itself too much in spinoffs or it just becomes Saw 14 with people wearing green tracksuits.

Fucking awful!

They made it worse than one of those low budget WWE movies where a bunch of rich rednecks hunts down some down on his luck drifter.

If their inclusion is a big part of S4 (which it seems to be) then count me out. Not interested in that direction with peanut gallery tech billionaires buying into and funding the games. The mystique and magic was already gone after S1. The VIPs just completely killed what was left.

oh man this is me, i started this week so i can delete it off my plex server, 3 episodes down and i have lost complete interest in the show / characters. don't give a fuck what happens, and everything feels so stupid and pointless. someone dies, oh no, who cares that character sucked ass anyways vs season 1 where every character was pretty interesting and you really, really felt sad at some of the deaths.

doesn't help that so many people look alike, oh no random chick died who was she again...

how the fuck is every episode 1 hour and almost nothing is happening :(

just looked at netflix and this show is still #1 in most watched what the fuck

The last 2 episodes definitely tarnished the show for me. The tech billionaires were particularly bad because of how awful the acting was and their voices didnt even sound real. Hate that they used the end to set up the American spinoff. Bummed that Cate Blanchett is going to be involved as well.

It got better, but still by the end, it just carried no impact for me until the final scene, which had me somewhat interested in what could come next - and yet not, because the draw of this show for me ultimately was the shock and violence of the first season and the collective reaction in the moment back in 2021. The more it was explained / moved from that initial draw, the less I remained interested in it.

This show took the same path as The Matrix franchise for me. Some other interesting parts along the way I didn't mind, but as it removed mystery and answered questions about the surrounding world, it became less interesting if not bad in parts - and then just kept going and going.

Bummed that Cate Blanchett is going to be involved as well.

Only a rumor for now, that wasn't shot with those plans set in stone or her actually cast for a future project, last i read. We'll see if a effort from David Fincher really comes together.

yeah i finished liberally fast forwarding and wish i had never watched s2 & s3. s1 is fantastic and a great one off, nothing in s2 & s3 is interesting in the slightest and its a complete waste of time.

the only time i felt anything was when the old woman died, mostly because they were one of the few ones who were truly innocent

I feel like the players played most of the events realistically in S3...until the very last one. Then they had to have everyone make one stupid decision after another to make everything play out in the most dramatic way possible. But because it was so contrived, it killed any emotion that they were trying to make me feel.

It didn't feel as slow as S2 did...I don't hate that I watched S2 and S3, but they weren't as satisfying.
