There's no star trek in this movie though. They apparently blow up the enterprise in a few minutes against the saurians then spend the rest of the movie reenacting Lord of the Flies. There's no need to even see the movie... They win and maybe hint at another Enterprise being built.

Prolly forget about it, think its a real star trek movie I somehow missed, download it, and kinda sorta regret it like ending a dry spell by fucking a fat chick after last call.

It really irks me that they owned the casting so hard and continue to not make Star Trek with the characters. If the casting was shit it would be easier to tolerate.

Yeah I agree, good casting...and in my opinion pretty decent sci-fi movies to be honest...just bad Star Trek ones.

The Spock casting is actually pretty bad. They would have been way better off if they had gotten Benedict Cumberbitch to be Spock in the first place, and gotten someone who actually sounds something like Khan to be Khan. Zachary Quinto has the mannerisms alright, but the voice is so far off that it's not even funny, where I think Cumberbitch could have gotten much closer to the Nimoy voice.

All the other casting is pretty good. Pine pulls off a great Kirk in this trailer.

I was going to argue the point Star trek movies need to be big and action packed, in a way a series can't. the 2h run time, doesn't allow a slow thoughtful morality tale...
But then I though, Star trek:the Martian would be amazing. and, decided, nope. There is plenty of room for a good sci fi movie, that isn't a big action adventure, especially in the Star Trek franchise.

Star Trek 6 is my favorite of the original movies, and even 2 (everyone else's favorite) didn't have that much action. Fuck, the shows themselves run 50ish minutes, and some are back-to-back 2-parters, that's a movie right there.

I really didn't like Into Darkness. I am pretty iffy on this. The Star Trek fan might win out though.
