Pigs in Space, the Muppet Show parody of Star Trek, is almost fifty years old. As a side note the episode where Mark Hamill guest stars is a lot of fun.
I think some of the hate stems from the fact you don’t have 22 episode seasons anymore. You could get away with dumb goofy ass shit like Quark pretending to be a woman or Belana Troi bringing Alexander into shitty holodeck programs or Janeway turning into a lizard, because ultimately it is just a drop in the barrel. When you’re only getting a handful of episodes a season, it stands out a lot more
You also need really convincing technobabble to try to make this concept work outside of it being a hallucination. Like the cartoon gag at the end of the Lower Decks crossover, they pass it off as psychoactive substances in the Orion liquor
I just watched a video that talked about how everyone became puppets for an episode.
That is even more disrespectful to the original franchise than TLJ was.
What's the over/under on Mike Stoklasa loving/hating it?
CBS forced Kurtzman to do Academy when he was going to continue Picard Season 3 into a Season 4 full series called Legacy.
I'll always blame CBS more than Kurtzman-- they don't get nearly enough hate for trying to bring in "modern audiences" that don't give a fuck about Star Trek.
For anyone who hasn't watched the muppet episode yet: yes its every bit as bad as you imagine, and no they don't do anything interesting or funny with it.

“Guys, SNW is like the ONLY success we have had out of all this stuff… like we barely got a pass for the musical episode but thankfully most of these tarts remember that Buffy episode… so we are going to be going in to this final season, lets show them we are good, we know what they like, be true to trek!…… get the muppets.”
