Also Spielberg was tapped to convince JJ to get involved again after he balked at returning for RoS.

That relationship no longer exists.

I doubt Disney created enough goodwill during the production of RoS to interest JJ again all on his own. His team released a bunch of gripes on reddit after RoS came out-- a lot of things sounded unforgivable. JJ himself citing it as the most studio-meddled movie he has ever worked on in history. That doesn't say "sign me up" to me.

George shot it with a shoulder-loader VHS and then transferred it to film by standing in front of a TV in his living room with a camera screen recording a 24 inch color television at the Ranch. It's a little shakey but the screen recording is in 4k.

yeah, so basic kinescope recording (think moon landing, our original FILM footage has been lost to time. they claim.) and at best you get a 360-480 p resolution. you can not upscale 360 to look like 4k resolution

That's really pissing on Lucas grave, he disowned it and was ashamed of it. Guess this is what $4bn to buy the franchise only to ruin it gets you - re releasing the holiday special to kill Star Wars even further
