I'm liking it but I think Terraria is still the better game (hopefully just for now.) I'm not a big fan of the cutesy monsters. The monsters in Terraria were cute too but there were some that still had menace.

Also, I don't see any point to building a home. Nothing happens at night. Monsters don't get harder, no sense of dread like there was when you started out in Terraria.

I do agree with someone on the other page that said digging feels a little flat. It does. Terraria had cool, biome-specific items. Starbound just has antimatter upgrades, a RNG weapon and some ore or money. I'm not getting any cool trinkets.

Anyway, I'm early on so maybe you find cooler shit later.

Music feels off too. Like you're deep underground and you're listening to the whimsical track you get when you first land on the planet.

I'm enjoying it. For $15 as long as I get 20 hours or so out of the game I won't feel like I was robbed blind.

This game is great. Sure, it's not as good as Terraria, but it has spaceships.

Yeah the reviews of it from before the launch are negative as fuck, decent little game, this game is not terraria, on its own its worth a play.

I can see the game being very good with some minor tweaks that it will inevitably get.

That said I'm playing the fuck out of it and enjoying learning and seeing everything.

I'm only a few hours deep but it feels much more on-rails than Terraria. I think too many people are going in expecting "Terraria in space" and leaving disappointed because Terraria is such a masterpiece. But it is really just related to Terraria but does other things much different.

My matter manipulator upgrades are all locked. Do they unlock at some point in the quest progression or is there any issue?

Figured it out

Starbound - Quest friends forever

Nice Blogpost by one of the devs, on one of the things I think Starbound got right. really right. Progressively generated quests. particularly those in colonies.
The permanence aspect is brilliant.
When you get a quest to rescue and escort an npc back to your colonly. They STAY there. and will start generating quests themselves, interacting with other elements, etc.
When sent to capture a pet, for a tenant. you bring it back, and they summon the pet, and IT stays there.
Quests to merchants to buy unique decorations, again, they have you place them in their rooms.
A colony merchant might have you get materials for something, and then expand their inventory with it.
