I think with a 307 alt universe would have been fine because those things had all the Asgard / Alteran tech built right into them as they were coming off the assembly line by the time of SGU. That would be a monstrous power jump for an Earth that didn't even have gate travel yet and could catch up to a galaxy still dominated by the Goa'uld. Earth would still be on the back foot but not the silly disadvantage SG1 had in the earlier seasons and the ship would be a character in that way since there would be no replacing it.

Its a shame regardless.

That sounds like a spinoff show you have while a main show is still running on its last couple seasons. That's the Continuum movie as a show and to have that as a launch point decades later I can see why Amazon would pass on it.

I don’t know... that’s actually a pretty cool idea. It is a way of rebooting the franchise without quite rebooting it. Older fans would recognize the characters and actors, while it would still feel reasonably fresh to newer viewers who never watched the original series. They could return to the original’s episodic planet-hopping exploration without being bound to the original storyline.

Pretty much - it's a power scale nerf since humans were basically god tier by the end of the shows, but they leave the door open to introduce stuff as needed.
