Not sure why we would buy this over a regular pc... other than play pc games on your couch in the living room... but then just get a steam deck...

That's 1k in US dollars right? That's kinda the expected price especially nowadays with how expensive everything is. But yeah you could get a better PC for that price, not in that size though. I think it kinda just got fucked with the release timing, although even without it I think they were likely aiming for 800 or somewhere around that before memory tripled in price.

Anyone who buys a "PC" in 2026 with only 8GB VRAM is insane.

SteamOS will make or break this. Curious to see a deep dive on the performance side of things, have they even shown it off yet? I honestly don't follow all of this but it has me intrigued.

Might be a fun project to install it on a spare drive. Seems to be reasonably possible if you have amd stuff now.

All I know is their ad on the page that comes up for me either has two fat trannies or two fat lesbians playing cuphead. Now that’s what I associate it with.

I don't even see how this Steam Machine could play new games at 4k to the level of a ps5 etc. I feel like that is the expectation most people would have that would look at buying it. It would probably be a fine 1080 and older game system. Most people these days that would buy that are going to hook it up to a 4k TV I'm sure and I just don't see how it could possibly be competitive at this price point.

I was thinking about buying the Steam Frame when it came out but with prices going the way they are, man idk if it's going to be at a price I'm willing to pay. I'm just glad I bought a steamdeck right before the prices jumped, even if I haven't gotten around to using it yet.

Have we even seen what SteamOS can do yet? Yall like to jump straight to conclusions before all the info is out.

Its supposed to power the steamframe, that wouldn't be possible at all I don't think without some kind of software advancement up their sleeve. Given the current specs.

If this was 2024 they could ship with 32GB and shave $200+ off. Same exact harddrives would save another $100+ as well.

Even if you aren't using AI you are still paying the price for it.

Bold that you think that that much memory won't cost more than the entire system this time next year ;p
Yes, we know that PCs are essentially dying for the mid - lower middle class. It still doesn't change the fact that this thing doesn't really fit into the current market.

Then again, every other game these days is 2D pixel trash, so I guess that's the future!!

It's funny how this is all playing out because the only game I have been WOW'd at this year was Crimson Desert (Arc Raiders and Res Evil Requiem Demo looked good) but now that I have a $3k gaming rig, I keep seeing myself having more fun with some of those games :( It seems they sell more power, and then we rarely don't get slop anymore and Indie games run fine on a toaster.

Also the skill set of the gaming industry has literally tanked over the last 15 years so even games that shoot for graphical glory are typically bug ridden un-optimized garbage.

More horse power today is pretty much meaning we are getting more horsepower to fight thru that shit optimization and still have decent frames rather than advancing graphical standards.

Used to tell peeps if you want to get into gaming pc's do drugs, it's cheaper. More true now than ever. That uphill power/gaming payoff never comes. Part of why I stopped buying into Nvidia's 'coming soon to a game near you' shiny water bullshit.
