What is like the best 3-4 anime series in the last 20 years to watch.
I haven’t watched anything in that long. I started Attack on Titan but didn’t finish it.
Cowboy Bebop. IMO the greatest anime ever made. It's one that even none anime people can enjoy.

Samurai Champloo. Same approach as Cowboy Bebop, but set in Feudal Japan.

Freiren. Many people assume it's an adventure anime and give up because it's slow. It's actually an anime about the importance and value of people around you that happens to have adventuring in it.

Berserk - The original Golden arc. Not only amazing but a massive influence on the Dark Souls games.

Chainsaw Man. Absolutely awesome. Only this and Berserk are manga I've started reading.

Definitely a me problem—I haven't been in a regular watching habit in a very long time. Hence the request for best recommendations :). Will check out FMA: Brotherhood.

Thanks, these are all new to me, will check them out.

Also all new; on the list! I do try to follow these threads a bit--It seems like the most broadly praised shows end up being adaptations, so they often end up with me reading the manga. MHA, Golden Kamuy, Attack on Titan manga reads all came from you guys loving the shows.

Okay, so now I've gone from nothing to 100 watch hours. Thanks, FOH.

No, no it doesn't.

You should watch the real Japanese movie, Departures. It's an actual acted movie, as opposed to an Anime.
It's fucking cry porn with how many times you will weep during it.

Obligatory urobutcher plugs : Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho Pass

Other genre standouts: Made in Abyss, Steins;Gate, Monster, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan, Hunter X Hunter (2021), Frieren, Re:Zero, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Alchemist Diaries, Baccano!, Eminence in Shadow*, Konosuba, Danmachi, Bofuri, Death Note, Code Geass, Mirai Nikki.

*This is a victim of Poe's law, it's a satire, but the things it is making fun of are so ridiculous that it actually comes across as serious for a surprisingly long time.

Freiren - the adventure, is life - is also the thing. It just is put together so well, the base classic high fantasy tropes are clean and clear and all the unique spins are done very well and thoughtful.

I need to watch Champloo, never heard it described that way...now I am interested ;-)

Agreed but cowboy and samurai are older then 20 years you old, old man.

I'll throw in my recommendations. Only recommending finished anime

Steinsgate (psychological thriller)
Death note (crime drama with a supernatural twist)
Full Metal Alchemist (greatest revenge story ever told)
Attack on Titan (horror/fantasy/political)
Code Geass (mecha/Scifi)
Gurren Lagann (mecha/scifi)

That should get you started

Oh forgot my favorite although technically it's not finished, the anine "finishes" in a good part

Going to complain here a moment…

Bastard! Remake was complete crap. I have no idea the manga and if the stuff that happened after the original OVA anime was in the manga but, sheesh… what a pile and all that with no T&A to keep you moving on.

Okay… I guess thats all… the comment on a remake made my sad memory of this come back.

I liked Trigun.

I have an odd desire to rewatch Record of Lodos War. Is there any remaster etc?

I went ahead and picked up a HiDive subscription, and it has some really good stuff I've been interested in watching (High School of the Dead is my first watch, as I liked the premise of the live action one but never made it through the whole thing).

However, this is literally the worst streaming app in existence. Doesn't remember where you left off in a series correctly, no skip intro or credits, no handy notifications like when Crunchyroll says, "Hey, you've been watching this with english dubs, the next episode is Japanese only, still want to watch?" Resets the volume control to maximum for each new episode, struggles to remember your language/subtitle preferences, and while totally dumb and not usually an issue but is an indicator of how fucking sad this app is, limits you to 3 different colored rings with HI for your avatar choice, that's it, not even a fucking initial.

I could probably handle most of those, but not having a running "Continue series you've started" section like literally every other streaming app is really fucking annoying. I feel like I'm going to have to watch just one series at a time here so I don't lose track of where I left off in multiple series.

This may be something I sub to only once in awhile, because I am strongly against giving money to people that clearly don't give a shit.

The Trigun remake recently released was amazing. Some people hated it due to the cgi, but it was so well done I didn't care.

Highschool of the Dead is my guilty pleasure. I love horror and fall of society stuff. Combine that with an absolute truck load of fan service and it's a 10/10 for me. How ever I don't usually recommend it for that reason.

HiDive is also available through Amazon. That's how I use it.

I saw that, but then I read that you can't actually merge the two services, same with Crunchyroll. Since I've built up a fairly good history on Crunchy I won't be switching to Prime, but with HiDive maybe I will before my free trial expires.

Is there any limitation or censoring on Prime? I saw some references to it in some comments but who knows how old those were. Like, if I want to watch that Monster girl one with titties (I forget the name, first episode girl is a snake/lamia), is that going to be the same on Prime? I don't watch anime for boobs per se, but if they are uncensored normally I don't want Prime to censor them, or even worse just remove that series from my choices altogether.

I use Crunchyroll in its app but get HiDive through Amazon. It remembers where you left off. I don't think Amazon censors, if it's censored it's from the version HiDive got.

You should check it on HiDive because I remember very little actual nudity in Monster Masune or what ever its called. Was always creative cut away and stuff, so edited. I assumed it was the version they had though, and not Amazon.
