No wonder her grill is so fucked up - she's a fucking dirty Brit.

(the numbers still has the $37.1M in green, but every other place is reporting it as final)

think supergirls international will be lower than morbius and joker2.
morbius opening weekend was $39M domestic and $44.9M international.
joker2 was $37.7M domestic and $81.1M international

guess it will beat blue beetle $130M WW total lol

Remember that theaters themselves take a significant chunk of ticket sales (50%+ internationally, domestically 20+% the first two weeks and 50%+ the rest of the time). It doesn't matter if everyone other than Momoa was paid peanuts, even if the thing only had a $290M budget / promo, they would need well over $400M (more likely $500M+) to cover that from theatrical. How much WB claims HBO Max 'pays' for rights means the accounting for the movie can be whatever WB wants, but some arm of WB is still losing money.

Edit: But man, Variety already had that round in the chamber for this one, compared to similar budget disasters like Masters of the Universe and Mandalorian - somebody's getting encouraged to start that "Get Gunn out the door" narrative going already.

Spot on. Rian Johnson had no writing credits prior to TLJ.

I really like Brick but it's a noir detective thriller reskinned as a high school drama (or the reverse depending on how you look at it). It's very well made but nothing about it says "let this guy write and direct Star Wars." Looper is a fantasy story pretending it's science fiction. It's loaded with contrivances and magic. I would consider it as a strike agaisnt him being handed Star Wars.

If you're going to go forward with Super Girl after watching The Marvels and Madam Web eat shit and after the entire last decade of girl power media than it better be something fun and light. It better have an audience ready to go. Instead they blew 270 million goddamn dollars to tell a violent sex trafficker story. Taking in 37 million domestic for a summer weekend is a total disaster. It's going to do a a tenth of that this weekend and be done.

Not only did they let him write Star Wars, they went into production with his first draft. This was peak clown shoes.

I can't stand looking at her. She's not ugly, but there's something off-putting.
She's jarringly unattractive. In stills it is one thing, but it is a constant distraction in the movie. And then there are slo mo shots that made me wonder why everyone who did this movie is shit at their job. I had a physical cringe when they showed her screaming in space. Those motherfucking teeth make everything 100x worse. Not a single person took a look at her and thought, maybe she isn't right for the role.

The laughable part of all this $200+M loss is that not a single person will lose their job over it.

That whole ship went wrong the moment JJ wrote a script where Luke, Leia and Han would never be in a scene together and that script got the okay from Kathleen Kennedy and presumably Bob Iger.

I saw it.

I'm not a hater-- we were the only TWO people in the entire theater (BIG inner city IMAX theater).

What an UNEVEN film. So uneven, that, and this is not a spoiler-- but if the last scene (4 minutes?) were cut from the film entirely, it would have been 25% better!

It had its moments. But those moments were all over the place.

Bravest and weirdest thing DC ever conceived-- a NOT HOT Supergirl.

And Eve Ridley, who seemed so stupid and pathetic in the trailer, sort of carried the film.

I'm falling on the side of there was a very good movie in there somewhere, but holy shit did it get put in a blender and mixed with dogshit. People got paid enormous amounts of money to conceive this tale that is so fractured and tonally disparate that you can focus on moments only-- inspiring moments, stupid moments, ironic moments, dog-shit moments (metaphorically, Krypto eats, but doesn't actually excrete feces). Although Supergirl does urinate!

Man, I am so torn. I'm glad I saw it for the complex melange of tropes, themes, messages, stereotypes, emotions, and disjointed moralities.

I am pretty certain the goal wasn't to TRY to make a movie with more thematic potholes than any other ever made. But they did.

I give it a 5-- for all of the forces pulling it in every review scale rating (and since that is usually 0-10, every vector pushing the arrow in so many directions (but it can only slide in 2 dimensions) I end up with 5.

I was not /am not a hater for this one. I had hope. Imagine what would be defecated from Krypto after he ate a bowl of glitter... a super turd that shines at times when you look at it.
