I have not been a fan of modern horror, but this is nice and creepy. That scene is Alien/The Thing level great.

First episode was solid enough.
Great production values.
They did not give much time for a romance between Abbie and Alec. His "origin story" seemed rushed. Loved the nods to Carpenter's "The Thing."

BUT- why does NO ONE sound like they are from Louisiana or the Bayou? Why are the infectious disease people so freaking stupid? It seems like one has ever heard of universal precautions let alone contact precautions or airborne precautions (let alone HAZMAT gear). No staging area to change in the isolation room either. I'l just expose myself in my droplet precautions and then come right outside to the crowded hallway and change there. Let's just take every chance we can to get exposed to a potentially world-ending infection! By the way, none of the characters EVER asks for help from other law enforcement, the EPA, the national parks service, national guard, or anyone. Let's just go into every next move with no real plan, no precautions, no communication and no help (and let's stop for a bourbon or two). They didn't even try!

I liked that Abbie is doing everything to save the girl while stopping for drinks at every turn. She even gets yelled at by Mrs Sunderland in a bar! Maybe THAT is the Louisiana way? Reminded me of "Naked Gun" (in a non-comedy way). "Not one man on this force will rest for one minute until he's behind bars. Now let's go get a bite to eat."

Lastly; and this bugged me the most; the morgue. No precautions at at all. And just HOW did a 9 year girl get from an isolation/critical care room to the morgue (after pulling off all her monitoring equipment) without a single person even noticing? And just how close were those two places?

It was GOOD and entertaining with a tad too much stupid with regard to the Infectious Disease angle. I like the horror genre. I hope it gets smarter and scarier and grosser and not more stupid.

But DC, your track record is not good and you've already reduced the show from 13 eps to 10...

It was particularly jarring given the full hazmat treatment at the start of the episode for the kids in Africa. One giant tentacles start growing out of people you would think that they would place the whole facility on emergency lockdown, especially if this is actually meant to be part of the DCU (which it is) in which case fucked up and strange should be commonplace enough to warrant appropriate response.

According to reports this has been officially cancelled by the suits at Warner Brothers. Speculation is rampant about whether this is due to an impending implosion of the DCUniverse experiment or not.

So it would seem to be the case that the cancellation has more to do with North Carolina state government tax rebate than due to issues with what they actually produced.

The entire streaming service is also now 'being reevaluated'.

Yeah, I heard that too. It think that AT&T/WB realize that they're about to have to do their own and see no purpose in having two. Question is if any of the original content will survive. Makes me weep for my beloved Doom Patrol.

Yup-- cancelled after one episode aired.
The excuse given is that the show was 50% funded by "tax breaks" from the state of North Carolina.
So, shouldn't the tax payers get to decide to keep it or axe it?

That is a very strange model for financing a content-driven pay streaming service.

I guess DC will need to air porn. Who is going to pay for no content on a network that requires taxpayer-funding?

Amazing that Marvel can continue to generate content without robbing people. Jessica Jones Season 3 Trailer is out...

It wasn't 50% funded. It was an 85 million dollar budget which honestly the show looked it. 12 million was tax funded.

The way I read the stories, of the $85 million budget, the produces were counting on $40-$67 million in grants. They ended up with $12-$13 million:

"Out of the $31 million the state sets aside for each fiscal year for the grant program, Swamp Thing qualified for up to $12 million, which only covered a portion of the show’s overall costs. Star News reports that the production budget for Swamp Thing’s first season hovered somewhere near $85 million.
As to the specific budget issue, a recent communication error led North Carolina’s House of Representatives’ appropriations committee to believe that the grant fund had an excess to the tune of about $67 million, which it did not."

It sucks because you can't have a network without content. You can't have content without a budget. But, seriously, the idea that everyone has to have their own streaming network is stupid...

Bring back "Constantine!" That was another show cancelled without merit.

At least he still lives on. He was a regular on the last season of Legends.

I figure at this point it's that time of the year we call the "Showhole" for a reason. So at least it's something to watch. And cross fingers that the good of the DC streaming finds a home elsewhere (probably the soon to exist WB streaming service)

Nothing like a mortal kombat fatality to make the show even better. If it stays this good it will be a shame they canceled it.
