I gave path of terraria mod a shot. and ehhhh.
So, fair points. its beta, not complete. and, its not like have explored the whole thing yet. maybe it great at the end. also, playing solo.
but honestly, my experience up to eye, and leading up to brain are, everything added is basically worse then vanilla.
1. ui. UI locks 1 weapon into slot 1. (allowing z to weapon swap). so, you can't swap between many weapons like normal. like having sentries, summons, and using magic attacks. or, using the rain staves for persistent aoe damage, while also casting more direct spells.
this also locks you into your hotbar annoyingly. this is hard to explain, but, using your hotbar to place bricks, platforms, mine, etc, locks out your weapon.
2. quests. pointless and sucks. most give rewards, much weaker then anything you found completing the quest. collecting feathers from owls.. ffs.. it just a boss locking system. so you need to do some stupid quest, to fight a boss.
3. bosses. no longer spawn via normal in game systems. like, eye doesn't stalk, attack you a night. instead, you have to do the quest, open a portal to eye boss arena. kindof like Starbounds, but worse.
One of the BEST features of Terraria is how interwoven every game design is. Bosses spawn in the world. this encourages exploration of the proc gen world. Either making you fight in the proc gen as is. or, use the building tools to modify and build arenas. its brilliant. so, lets remove all that, and have you open up portals to pre designed boss arenas... ooph..
4. skill/passives. kind of barebones. largely pointless. might be better in the future. as well as make up for being locked to 1 or 2 weapons. the passives are mostly just power creep. the skills are barely implemented. again, might help with multiskills later.
5. rng weapons. need an item filter for terraria.. piles of useless crap weapons.
shards/currency to upgrade/craft. ok.. but honestly, just feels like busy work compared to vanilla's rng crafting. stats that are even more useless. "cold resist".
