I didn't hate last season, like a lot of people here seemed to, but this season is certainly sounding worse; making for zero motivation to start it up.

I agree that it doesn't look like they had any idea what to really do after season 1 where it didn't get soap opera-e, cliché, or have it look like they are stretching shit out because they want 10 seasons.

Best alternative I could think of is if they had made it into a show about going from nothing to eventually a three star Michelin restaurant, while following the original people as they try to increase their skill, even if that means that they are working at different restaurants. Like what I thought they were going to do when they showed Ritchie basically being an apprentice at a high end restaurant in season 2.

I agree with the points here . The journey itself to Michelin would have been interesting to see if they focused on the staff and restaurant.

I am sure they didn't have a great plan past season 2, probably not expecting the demand.

Wife and I finished S4 and really enjoyed it. Sure, it's probably not quite as strong as S1-2, but we thought it was fucking miles better than S3. We'll give S5 a shot.

finally finished season 4 and while i didn't hate most of the episodes its definitely nowhere near the kind of show it was in season 1. Its always put family drama and crisis of identity in the center but season 4 really made it the only things the show is about. Which is a shame, as people have said above I went into season 1 expecting a show about how a rag tag group of people go from cooking sandwiches to becoming a michelin star restaurant and season 4 actively does its best to avoid those themes.

i don't give a fuck about sydney or her "journey", and season 4 is centered squarely around her boring ass character. If you wanna be a white guy flagellating yourself over slavery you should have at least made Marcus the main focus, he's a wildly more interesting character but he is on the fringes of season 4 still. Even Ebrahim's arc was far more fun and interesting than Sydney the Dull. but nope, hollywood writers rooms nowadays fetishize black women, next season she'll probably be a lesbian.

even the big "centerpiece" episode of this season, the wedding, brought in a ton of crazy big actor cameos (Brie Larson, Hartnett, etc) but it felt like an absolutely nothing burger episode.

This show has overstayed its welcome so much unless John Bernthal is doing an acting classes in a flashback I just can't manage to give a fuck about anything going on.

I really liked season 1 and 2. I didn't hate s3 but I'm having a hard time getting through s4. 90% of the show is just people sitting around talking about their feelings in a way that doesn't really happen in real life, at least outside of a therapist office.

The under the table scene took me 3 tries to get through. It's just so ridiculous even if you accept the idea that there's a table that 12 adults can sit comfortably under.

Also, apparently the writers think that being an "amazing" parent means acting like a child yourself.

it's probably those retards saying

hey cousin

what cousin?

guess whats up cousin

idk cousin

haha cousin

muh, cousin
Got bored and watched it. You pretty much nailed it. Was 45 mins of them saying cousin and getting drunk and then of course ending the episode with an argument. Was pointless and added nothing to the story.

No complaints, went about how I expected.

Last point I made last few seasons, Goddamn Oliver Platt was in like 6 minutes this season and crushed it!!!

Holy shit can he chew up scenery.

All in all, a satisfying ending.

Platt was also amazing in The West Wing as the White House legal consult. A small part in 8 episodes, but a memorable one. He did most of his TV work in Huff, The Big C and Chicago Med... any of those worth checking?

I remember enjoying Huff a lot. But that was a long time ago and I feel like it got cancelled early. I can't say I'd necessarily recommend it though since I don't remember anything about it and I liked lots of dumb shit 20 years ago.

watch Gary and binged through season 5. not worth watching if you never watched the show, but if you stuck through 4 seasons then it does pretty much wrap up all stories.

it never became the show i wanted it to be, the typical fucked up guy brings together a team to achieve a dream and the lives he wrecks along the way. instead its about a new family coming together and a guy realizing the thing he is really, really good at is not the thing that makes him happy in life.

which i can accept, but ... it wasn't really that interesting. i just don't buy The Bear being around for another year or two even. hell, Carm won the 2 michelin stars off his dishes and his fucked up management perfectionist style, so season 5 is all kinda pointless and i'm 100% sure michelin will drop them to 0 stars with him gone. a lot of the final story beats don't even really make any sense if you think about them too much, like just starting an internship in a new professional field with no degree or the franchising stuff or the state of the building.

oh well, tl;dr is watch season 1 and stop if you never watched the show. if you watched 4 seasons finish it off, s5 is 7/10. better than season 3/4 but nowhere near as good as s1. the first 3 episodes are AWFUL.

now this fucking animated show coming in a month looks way, way better haha

Assuming I'm following your synopsis correctly, that's an absolutely retarded plot line. You don't go to the peak of your profession without having a passion for it. You don't just accidently become a Michelin star rated chef and hate being a chef because your real passion is something else. You reach those heights because you have a love for it.
