I wonder if those "advantages" aren't the same "advantages" I can get by voluntarily purchasing a digital copy in this generation - without removing the option of using physical media in the standard form we're all used to.

For some reason, I bet they are.

Primary advantage for me is never putting the disc in the drive again after installing it, drive-space permitting (and the option to just re-download a retail title if necessary). Still hoping for some form of remote play over Skype or something. Interested in digitally trading/selling retail games rumors too because for the most part I don't deal w/ Gamestop.

Already can be done by digital purchases in this generation - if you want those benefits you can do it without removing disc users AS HAS ALREADY BEEN DEMONSTRATED THIS GENERATION.

Yeah, and now next gen I'll be able to pick up a game at retail for the usual retail promotional prices and enjoy all of the benefits we had with digital titles. Now it should apply to everything. The only thing I'm hoping for now is to sweeten the pot with an agressive pricing strategy for digital games including pre-order bonuses and whatnot, also like some of the recent sales, but I expect those were just the kind of thing we'll see as this platform wanes over the next handful of years.

I really hope Sony unveils something similar, a well done remote play via Vita with full access to all of your PS4 games rather than just whichever disc is in the drive + digital purchases would be nice.

The first Castlevania Lords of Shadow game was great. This looks even better. Derkon tells me the first game is being ported to PC and will be released in August? Well worth playing.

With the locks, there's less incentive for them to reduce pricing - remember that the wholesalers of the games have to lower prices right now to compete with used - when they have no desire to compete with used why would they be FASTER to lower prices? Used creates a larger supply - more supply = lower cost in basic economics.

I fully expect that you'll see DRM-locked games pretty much staying lockstep in-line with how much you can just log onto the digital store and get them for. (it might be $10 less in the store, but $10 activation or whatever - remember - its clear they don't want a tangible benefit to media anymore)

I fully expect XBone (and PS4 should they follow suit) games to not see price reductions for 6-9 months instead of the current expected 3-6 months because of them hampering the used market.

Article on Indie Devs and why some of them won't be publishing on Microsoft platforms in the future:http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featur...la-exodus.aspx

Edit: Which seems to have disappeared off GI's site right after I read it.
(Article is back up.)

You really don't have to look hard to find examples of indie developers running into problems because of ridiculous patch costs, prohibitive restrictions, and a long certification process. For example, Skullgirls finally got patched for the 360 a couple weeks ago - 6 months after it was published on the PS4.

Another blow is the fact that PS4 has announced support for F2P titles. Warframe was just announced as a PS4 launch title (along with Planetside 2 and DCUO). Microsoft has shown no inclination to support that model, which has forced indie developers that want to adopt that model to go elsewhere (like how UberEnt couldn't publish SMNC on the 360).

24 hour bullshit confirmed:

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

Also a bunch of vague licensing crap:

Loaning or renting games won't be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners.
