Microphone will still be on though.Putting electrical tape over mine, f that. On another note, XBox1-80 has taken top selling video game spot on Amazon.
And there's also the off chance that the Kinect won't let a game load at all if it can't recognize at least 1 person/face in its field of view. Taping/throwing a blanket over it may disable it to the point of the system not functioning while it is in this state.Microphone will still be on though.
I'm surprised no one has used the killer instinct "ULLTIMATE COMBBOOO" after the sony announcements of no DRM no always online and you can trade games. Lol.
The X180 isn't the top selling console. It's ranked number 1 because PS4 sales are split between five different bundles. Look at the top 10, ranked 3rd is PS4 (Last of Us has the 2nd place VG rank at the moment), three different PS4 game bundles are in 4th, 5th, and 8th, and the original sold out Launch edition is ranked 16th.It had actually taken the number one spot a day or two ago. I highly suspect something not completely right there.
Should have him redo it based on the fact only Jago comes with it unless you're throwing money at them.
Government can turn on your iphone and record you with camera and microphone without your knowledge.http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/privacy
Did folks completely miss this information at some point?
Kinect monitoring can be completely paused or even shut off, including the ability to turn it on by saying "Xbox On."
If a game or some entertainment feature you want to use requires Kinect, you will have to turn it on, and will be prompted to do so - don't buy Kinect-Only games if you don't want to have to do that. Like mentioned at the bottom - "You can use other inputs to control your games, TV and entertainment experiences: While it's faster to find what you're looking for using your voice and gesture commands with Kinect, you can use a controller, your remote controls or your smart devices instead. And you can use all of these devices when Kinect is paused."
Normal Required Disclosure - I work for Microsoft, and have very intentionally not waded into this thread, nor will I be able to comment/provide information outside of what's already publically available. I felt the need to link to that above article because it seems a lot of people missed it or don't understand the capability of controlling what Kinect does.
Thanks.
Her computer was either running Apple, or it was running Windows. It was almost certainly not running Linux.CBS News announced on Friday that the computer of investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson's computer had registered multiple breaches, a disclosure that prompted a great deal of speculation about just who was responsible for the misbehavior. In a short segment today on "CBS This Morning," Attkisson lent a personal touch to the story.
The primary takeaway? That Attkisson's hardware sort of "woke up" in the middle of the night. When asked how the hacking manifested itself, she said,"One example was the computers began turning themselves on and then back off again during the night."

If they can do it with your PC, they can do it with your Xbox.
So the argument "Well just turn it off" isn't even remotely accurate or valid. The fact is that if the government has a reason to, they will be able to subpoena and get that camera and microphone turned on. And they can do it all in secret, and force Microsoft to go along with it, and there's jack and fucking shit you can do about it.
This is entirely how it seems too, they go heads first into some crap add on, find out that the majority of people dont care for it, but it "can" be useful. So instead of making it more appealing(like their DRM) they force it on you and make sure their is a market for the games by integrating it into everything forcibly. Im sure every dev was asked to make use of it in some way since it WILL be with every system. Its one thing to think developers will suddenly make kinect games, but if they know its a required tool they will figure out ways to make it useful even if its unwanted. The kinect being required is stupid. You cab argue if its not than developers won't make games for it and I would agree. This is a classic engineering mistake. The kinect is a solution looking for a problem. If it was truly an amazing experience it would stand on its own. Microsoft requiring it tells me even they don't believe its success is possible as a standalone product. Poor job by Microsoft IMO
Well... you can fight the NSA with a multi-plug.So the argument "Well just turn it off" isn't even remotely accurate or valid. Stereotypical horselaugh fallacy bullshit attempts to slander the person concerned with something like this as a luddite or a paranoid who should go live in hermitage. You should find a nice cave.
That's gonna be great for archiving permanently shit like the National Library. Not to derail, but maybe disk-based media isn't on the way out quite yet...

If they can truly get 1000+ Terabytes of data on a single disk and at affordable prices, it'll be a long ass time before most of us have internet connections that can pull down even 1% of that much data in a single day, much less access it within minutes like off of a disk.
