I hated that Microsoft dropped the family share folder. Was really looking forward to having that option since I have a brother that lives an hour from me. If it worked like Microsoft advertised then, to my brother and I at least, it would have been the best thing to happen for console gaming. The needing to connect every 24 hours is what allowed that share folder to exist. Without it then anyone can just log into your account, download all your games, and never reconnect allowing you to keep all those games for as long as you wanted. You have to remember that the Xbox One discs were nothing more than an install disc, just like a PC game. With this recent change, unless you purchased the digital copy, those disc will have to be kept in the machine for the game to work which actually limits sharing more than the share folder seeing how only one console can have the disc in at anytime. Microsoft stated that a game in the share folder can be played by two consoles at the same time... the owner and one family member. That is as long as it worked like Microsoft claimed it would.

I really hope there is an opt in for the DRM so we can gain access to the shard folder option. If the share folder is completely gone then I might as well continue to do most of my gaming on the PC. Looks like I had the true next gen the entire time.

MS probably turned around after Mattrick had to defend the massive preorder drop and couldn't. Internet outrage didn't matter, articles slamming them didn't matter. Only preorders did, and it took a few days for that kind of feedback to hit Redmond.

The $100 doesn't matter to me. I've already explained my stance on the hardware. I like Kinect and it comes in the box. To me this is Xbox One + $100 connect bundled together. I don't play indie games. I play AAA racing/sports titles and shit like Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider and Gears of War. I don't care about exclusives.
Which of these games use Kinect?

I've played PC games since 2000.
Cute.

Barriers to entry.

1. Always watching and listening Kinect.

2. No HID wheel support

3. System selling exclusive

4. Underpowered

5. Paywall for Netflix and other streaming services.

6. DRM(dunno how to fucking strikethrough on this forum lol)

7. Price/Value

Good Job Microsoft, 6 more to go.

5. Paywall for Netflix and other streaming services.
Is this gonna be a thing on PS4 now too? I've been ignoring this thread because it's awful, but I thought I caught that at some point. Or is it just gonna be the multiplayer going pay and Netflix stays as part of the free package?

To strikethrough just use strike as a bbcode.(strike)(/strike) except with brackets.

Netflix, etc stay free. Only Online Multiplayer is now behind a Paywall (one which provides an absurd amount of value).

Microsoft pay-walling Netflix and the like while everything else on the planet plays it for free is batshit insane.

Lists like that need to include what is on PC also. Calling something exclusive means little to me if it is still available on PC.
Its a console discussion tho, so they wouldnt include PC, and regardless of if they did it still would put the PS4 over the Xbox.

I don't really care that I can block the kinect camera with a postit, a piece of cloth, have it face the wall or whatever.

I shouldn't have to sit in the one corner of my apartment the telescreen can't see when I want some privacy.

Good list of confirmed games in development for both systems..

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featur...-of-games.aspx

Total PlayStation 4 exclusives: 25
Total Xbox One exclusives: 17
Total multiplatform titles: 32
Sony also said there were 40+ PS4 exclusives in development during their E3 conference (and 140+ titles total). I imagine the known list will balloon up once the Tokyo Game Show hits. Not sure if "Console exclusive" is included in that number or not.

Has the change been reflected on Amazon's current top sellers yet? Curious if its a 180 there also, a part of me still hopes people steer clear of it, but dunno...

I mentioned it elsewhere, but of those titles I used my Kinect all the time in Madden 13. It was amazing for calling audibles. I also like a lot of the Kinect specific titles as well.
Do you intentionally make people hate you?

I feel like I'm in bizarro world. I just woke up and checked my Flipboard, and it's awash with articles stating Microsoft's new stance on DRM and used games is a step back for technology and the games industry.

Gizmodo - The Xbox One Just Got Way Worse, And It's Our Fault
Ars Technica - Xbox One Eighty: Microsoft fails to sell the future, retreats to the past
The Verge - Back to reality: Microsoft's new Xbox One policies retreat from the future
Medium - The Internet Just Made Microsoft Kill a Car for a Faster Horse

Each article is full of 'maybe's, 'could's, and frequent use of the word 'potential'. 'Maybe' Microsoft could have done <x>, Microsoft 'could' have done <y>. It's ridiculous.

Yeah I'm sure developers just want to make some coin on the secondary market so us poor saps who purchase games new don't have to pay as much... That's definitely why Microsoft put in the DRM "feature".

All that shit is hilarious, if that garbage was the future then I'll gladly live in the past. Microsoft tried to be an extremely shitty, restrictive version of Steam and failed and we are better off for it. People will embrace digital when they give us a platform for it that doesn't suck.

Also, them retracting DRM for Physical copies has absolutely no impact on their ability to push the Xbone as a digital platform. Steam doesn't have nor need 24 hour checks and neither should consoles. Nothing is stopping them from embracing Steam's model of cheaper digital games with awesome sales and the ability to take Steam offline if you want. Well, nothing but Greed and ass-backwards leadership.

Sony's actually had a fairly good digital solution for a while now. They do Day 1 digital release and PS+ members get a 10% discount, which isn't as nice as Steam, but it's a step in the right direction. They also have a lot of good sales, people just aren't very aware of them. Not to mention the whole free-games with PS+ deal which has turned out to be crazy in value.

Having Physical discs hasn't stopped Sony from embracing Digital as a major service and it shouldn't stop Microsoft either. I can only assume that the writers are idiots.

These people are idiots. The future they want is one where people are asked to assume risk before seeing the benefit? MS could have easily gotten away with this DRM shit if they had released the system normally and then sold DRM enabled games for cheaper--and given those games other benefits (Like being able to family share them). I guarantee in a few years most of the market would have been digital, because you'd have introduced the customer to the benefits of digital distribution before asking them to "trust you".

"It's out fault"--what a load of horseshit. It's not our fault that MS is being run like a fucking used car sale lot, rather than an innovative company.
