PS3 was more powerful than Xbox 360 and look what happened there.

Judging by the size of the drive opening, I would say about the same size or slightly larger than the first batch of PS3, but more massive as it is a monolith.

Fair enough. Although belittling the problem into something that doesn't seem worthy of a solution and shoved aside as something that never happens to anyone is not a good way to indicate that you're willing to admit that it could use some work, but anyway I'll stop.

No, it wasn't. Some parts were, but some really important parts were not (hi ram!). It was also a horrible bitch to program for and developers were all given manuals in Japanese and Sony basically made them translate it all on their own to start with. That is a completely different situation than what's happening now.

Architecture being x86 certainly seems to heavily imply that to me with my minimal understanding of programming.

I don't think the guy who designed the PS4's architecture (who was interviewed in a Gamasutra article linked near the beginning of the thread) speaks japanese.

Edit: You do remember that his game, Knack, is made byJapanStudio, right? I don't believe they have any staff outside of Japan.

There is honestly still way too many unknowns to say which system is better. The "mostly on" and killing used game sales doesn't bode well for xb1, but for all I know ps4 may be pulling the same shit.

I am interested to see what the interface is actually like when it isn't prerecorded nonsense. ESPN was definitely not showing a Heat v Clips game this afternoon and there wasn't some fantasy score being updated, for example. There is no fucking way it will be able to switch between TV, fantasy updater, a movie, IE, a game, music, and Skype that fast. All that shit would bring that hardware to a stand still if they were all running at the same time, which they would have to be for switches to occur so quickly. Also, phone and tablets exist for a reason. I much rather have a tablet at my disposal than to cover part of my TV with random information. Not to mention MS isn't giving you the TV abilities for free. I will admit though, just being able to say "watch CBS" and it goes to the channel is pretty fucking great.

Anyways, need some clarification. So Xbone won't physically replace the DVR box right? I'll still need the DVR box and I'll have to buy an extra device plus pay an extra monthly fee? Do I have that right? Because fuck that.

The PS3 created a new media standard (blu-ray) with no region coding allowing people to import from anywhere? (In Norway you can save up to $30+ on importing a game from Canada, not to mention you don't have to wait for the European release dates)

Became as popular (or more) as the 360 pretty much everywhere in the world except in the US?

Had a 3% error margin on the release consoles (I still have my 60 gig imported from Canada at release, still going strong) compared to the 360 with a 60% error margin at release? (Had to repair my 360 four times, even though it gets far less use. Have a 5 year reclemation right in Norway though that gets renewed when it breaks. I would never have replaced it if I had to buy another one). Quite obvious that the rush Microsoft did to get the 360 out the door a year earlier was not in the best interest of the consumer.

I fully understand people loving the 360 in the US, as you got netflix and all such LIVE features, but hardly any of the live features made it here until just a few years ago. Live gold also cost money, when PSN was free, and they both gave the same experience. 360 also required lots of peripherals that were native in the PS3 (no wireless = wtf).

As a gamer in Europe, the PS3 was vastly superior in the beginning compared to the 360. This is why I am leaning towards the PS4 too, because I do not care about the "multimedia TV" stuff, and I am fairly certain the majority of the functions will not work proplerly where I live anyways. I just want agamingconsole. My PC is connected to my TV with a HDMI cable. My TV is my monitor. Nothing the Xbox one can do that I can't do on my PC, except monitor my livingroom, and that I do not want.

That said, will buy both as soon as exclusive RPGs are released for said systems.

It doesn't replace your DVR, it has HDMI in that allows you to plug your DVR into it. The X1 is basically acting like Google TV in this case. Even so, it's going to beextremelyconvenient for anyone that already has cable service to be able to switch from game -> TV and back without having to fuck with things like inputs. I'm really looking forward to it.

At first I was laughing at the hardcore MS apologists. Now I am convinced theres some hardcore trolling afoot.

I'm impartial and reserving judgment till more concrete info is available, but fuck if that event wasn't terrible.
