Uh, so basically you are buying games new at 60 dollars, playing them for a few days, and then immediately trading them in and taking a 30-40 dollar loss? You are Gamestop's wet dream and everything that is wrong with their business practices.

Seriously, what the fuck dude? Just rent shit or wait till they drop to 20-30 bucks on Amazon.
Yeah, that's why I mostly quit buying console games.

Every so often a single player game will hold my attention for a decent amount of time. So I can't be sure I'll end up not playing a game after a couple days. A big game would come out. I'd watch some videos, read about it on here, and ultimately impulse buy it (using credit from the last game to pay for some of it). I could tell myself that if I ended up not playing it very much I could trade it in for credit towards the next one. Usually I'd regret picking up a game ("I knew I wouldn't play it !") but if I only paid $35 or so it wasn't the end of the world. And I'd usually enjoy a game when I first started playing it. I know it doesn't make sense. I must have gamer ADD or something.

By the time games are cheap on Amazon the buzz has generally died down and I won't care enough to purchase em. I was never big on renting either.

Ultimately I decided it wasn't worth it to buy them at all anymore, except in the rare circumstances. For example, I'll pick up Bioshock Infinite. I doubt I'll buy another console game this generation and I haven't picked up a single player game in a year or more.

I'll wait and see what MS and Sony do with the new systems. I was never going to pick one up on launch day but I was prob going to get one within a year or so. Esp if there was a killer app.

Yeah, i rarely buy new games besides the mega blockbusters that i am interested in. The other stuff i wait for sales or maybe buy used.

I just dont think its possible for a dev/publisher to put out a AAA single player game that has 40+ hour storyline anymore. The budget gets so rediculous and the only way to fund it is to go the absolute safest route as possible. And if it doesnt perform, you are gone. I just hope the new MS app store really works on a new type of pricing model. I think its the only way this works.

And if it doesnt, i will build that HTPC ive been wanting to!

I don't know when it became important for a game to be considered good to have 40+ hours. That's what I need out of an RPG, not any other type of title.

I bought Halo 4 for ?18. I was the third owner. I sold it a week later for ?15. I bought Sleeping Dogs for around the same amount and sold it at a loss of ?4 total. The second hand market is a godsend for me. I can buy a game and sell it a week or two later and get back 75-80% of what I paid for it. It's going to suck to see it go.

Assassin's Creed? Skyrim? Fall Out? Mass Effect? Dragon Age? Grand Theft Auto? Tales games? Ni no Kuni?

Shit, there's been a bunch of huge AAA single player games this generation. You either live under a rock or have a terrible memory.

I dont have the best memory in the world! But i really dont remember putting 40+ hours into many of those this year, but i am also not a completionist so that may be the difference.

I barely get 5 hours on a good week to game, so they all kinda run together at some point

It is not about the story line taking 40+ hours, it is about creating a compelling game that has reasons for you to keep coming back. For example, I sank countless hours into Batman Arkham Asylum because it was just an amazing game. I did the challenges modes over and over just for fun. Another is Mass Effect 3. It doesn't take that long to rip through the single player but I spent way more time playing multiplayer than single player. The multiplayer made the game worth the $60.

Heh yeah, also I put some value into leaving people satisfied rather than bored or frustrated. I put about 50hrs into saint's row 3, and about 100 into borderlands 2, but I wouldn't hesitate for an instant to suggest that SR3 was way more fun, and given a choice between SR3 and BL3 I would go straight for SR3 no question.

Mandatory kinect is no big deal. Plug it in and install it and if any games use it awkwardly it's their fault.

Yeah I can't understand about being mad about mandatory kinect if it's gonna come in the box. That's like getting mad at Microsoft for having a dependency on controllers. It's just a tool that they provide for developers to hopefully craft a meaningful experience around. Aside from that, though, it's also going to give you some benefits outside of games. Controlling Netflix / Amazon or whatever through voice and not needing a controller is the fuckin' business.

Yes it comes in the box but it's not like it's free. It means I have to pay for something I have zero interest in.

No kidding.

Ive got a ps3 and a 360, and i MUCH prefer the 360 controller.

Next gen is going to be interesting for sure with the push for the "entertainment console", which suites me fine since my ps3 is just a blu-ray player and my xbox is used for netflix and a few big release games every year. Sony is rumored to have the better hardware specs, but i dont have much faith in them creating a softwarer/OS eccosystem thats worth a shit. Im sure i will end up with both at some point so i dont guess it really matters.

I'm very glad they didn't fag it up xbox-style, I can't stand the 360 controller. Not a fan of them adding in the vita touchpad though, just looks like it will be thicker/wider/heavier for something that will end up being a shitty gimmick.

Yup me too. I can't stand the 360 controller. The Playstation controller has always felt perfect in my hands.

You guys are crazy. The X360 controller is superior in *every* way except for the shotty d-pad. Better grip and ergonomics, far better stick placement, good triggers, etc.
