Maybe I missed it somewhere but have they said what the hard drive sizes will be for the ps4? I don't mind all digital till I have to start bouncing shit around and download old games I want to play again etc etc

They haven't said officially yet, but all the rumors about the specs said 500gb and they were pretty much spot on with everything else. That's a little small considering games will be using up to 50gb discs, but it'll be manageable. Hopefully they let you pop in your own HDD like on the PS3.

Both Sony and Microsoft will want their players to be more digital consumers than physical. It all depends on which company copies the steam profile of online commerce. As of today it looks like Microsoft is somewhat understanding how to move their player based more to an digital purchase mindset with massive 75% off sales.

http://majornelson.com/2013/02/22/th...ate-game-sale/
Picked up El Shaddai for 3 bucks off that sale. Also it says some titles will be up to 85%. I hope RDR has a super cheap price, I never actually played it. Also might pick up the MGS HD Collection if they're cheap enough.

I've also never played a single CoD game and they're all going to be on sale, dunno if I want to actually try those or not though.

PSN Store has a blurb on the top bar about an up to 75-85% sale for the next two weeks as well - but doesn't look like anything is up for it yet (besides the voting ones but those aren't 75% - all 30-50%)

So this came out today...
http://kotaku.com/the-next-xbox-will...o-st-470062456
"If there isn't a connection, no games or apps can be started," the source continued. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time--currently three minutes, if I remember correctly--the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."
PS4 Will Not Require An Always-Online Connection [UPDATE]
Stemming fears of the always-online requirement still rumored strongly for the next Xbox, a Sony PR ? Read?

The PS4 will not require an online connection to start or run games, Sony has confirmed. No gaming console ever has.
Microsoft Studios' creative director Tard tweets this:

I wasn't getting the next Xbox anyways unless they announce Killer Instinct 3 so in the end it doesn't effect me. The always on thing is RETARDED though. Hopefully gamers don't put up with this bullshit.

And this is from that very same article:

That said, a caution and a caveat: other sources familiar with the codenamed Durango console have told us that they are still unaware of any Microsoft plans regarding an online requirement. No one has been able to say it's not true and some have speculated that this is required at the operating system level and therefore isn't something Microsoft has to tell all developers or retail partners. Microsoft also has the ability to change this type of requirement seemingly at a moment's notice through changes in firmware or networking infrastructure.
So Kotaku can't get their story straight as their "sources" are saying both and the entire thing is sensationalist bullshit to get page views.

I honestly don't think it's something that's going to happen with there being nothing but negative press and public backlash about it. There might have been some plans for it and Microsoft was testing the waters, but it'd seriously surprise me if they went through with it at this point.

I dont like this practice at all, but this wouldnt stop me from purchasing just because i /always/ have internet. However this is pretty gay no doubt, but i dont think MS would shoot itself in the foot like this and fuck themselves.

So this came out today...
It didn't come out today. There's been rumors - and even patents! - about requiring always-on connections, not having used games, etc. for both consoles going back to last year.

PS4 has now officially said they won't require a connection and will allow used games. MS may do the same, or they may not. I still wonder if they aren't designing these systems for the inevitable Chinese editions in 5-10 years, even if they don't enable those features in the West now.

Hell, if you want something to be worried about the 720 for, apparently one of the leading contenders to take charge of EA... is the guy in charge of the Xbox division (Don Matrick). You usually don't see people willing to jump ship right before the biggest project of the decade is about to launch.

Matrick also worked at EA for 25 years before joining MS in 2007. That may play a bigger roll in it than any problems with the next generation.

I seriously think that MS would be shooting themselves in the foot and would be handing Sony the next generation on a silver platter if they went through with this, so I have serious doubts of them doing something this stupid.

MS and Sony being extremely competitive with each other would be the best thing for us. If someone is overwhelmingly ahead then it just breeds complacency and isn't good for the consumer. I really wish Nintendo wasn't already dead out of the gate on this go around, because a three-way heavy competition would be even better for driving features and pricing for us.

between having a digital library that'll never get destroyed vs a bunch of physical copies I can masturbate on I'll take the digital copies.

That being said I've kept all my game manuals in my closet and the only thing keeping me from arguing with my wife about how cluttered our closet is, is the fact that I'll never give up my game manuals but it has zero purpose.
A lot of the "perfect" ROM Collections you can find on the internet have the game manuals scanned in and included as pdfs.

I don't really have enough time to play games anymore, but the fact that I have every game from every system PSX and earlier, manuals included (a few are missing, but the holes are being filled slowly by the people who work on the aggregation projects), available to me just makes me happy. So if digital copies are good enough for you, it is mostly a matter of building a large enough NAS, downloading all the games, and setting up your choice of front-end.

The Master,

Can I have more details on this? How did you accomplish it? What Emulator or what not are you using? Where are you downloading from?

This whole fiasco is making me realize just how fucking arrogant MS is right now. After the shitstorm that was D3 and Sim City, they still haven't learned. Or perhaps the $$ potential of being able to shove ads into millions of homes every time they turn on their consoles could be too much of a temptation for them. Shit, I'm starting to buy into the "Third Console Curse" theory now.

Lol, looks like this dipshit has tried to delete his douchebaggery. Hey asshole, you can't erase retarded things that you say on the internet. I'm sure this moron has cost Microsoft a few sales. I just hope they see that there is nothing but immense negative backlash on this "Always On" crap and they come out and say that it will not happen.

If MS actually goes with this "Always On" bullshit and focuses more on the X720 being an "Entertainment Center" than a game system I'm probably going to make the PS4 my primary game machine this time around. Sony hit all the right notes when they hammered home that the PS4 is all aboutGamingwith their conference in February.

The torrent site undergroundgamer has a long list of people who work to put all the games from each system into torrent packs, including box art, manual, ROM, etc., I have invites if you'd like to look it over, just PM me your e-mail address. Each system obviously has its own emulator, but you can get a front-end like GameEx (or several others, there are half a dozen good options) that will allow you to scroll through the games. Some front ends are sophisticated enough that they will load the box art and/or have a demo video of the gameplay, which can then select and it'll auto-load the correct emulator, load the ROM, and bam, you're playing the game. The only issue is space. I think the entire PSX collection is two terabytes. Also maintaining your ratio while grabbing all of it is a bit of a pain, you either need a seedbox or wait for a free leech.

Shit, he's mad bro:

That about encapsulates how I feel. Boogie is really good at that.

So far the gaming industry is 0/2 in AAA deliveries with always on DRM that shouldn't have it. I guess ruining the Simcity and Diablo franchise wasn't enough for greedy producers that now they have to ruin Xbox too.
