Looks like maybe I can designate 10 friends as family and share games between all of them.

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend's house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.
Also you can access your entire Xbox One library from any other Xbox One. Hoping that expands to any Windows 8 machine or tablet that meets certain requirements or something too.

Thank god, I was very worried I would not be able to watch TV on my Xbone if I was offline! Even better, the disc tray seem to work in a way so we can manually insert a disc and play it despite being offline! Progress!

(Are they really this stupid or did EA pay them billions to kill Gamestop or wherever people buy used games?)

"Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once." LOL! Yepp billions to kill off the second hand market.. its the only thing that would make sense...

As much as I disagree with the constant online checks. How many of you can remember the last time you had no internet for 24 hours and just had to play a video game. The bigger concern is giving developers the ability to make games unplayable without the cloud. Sony is also being shady with the we will leave that up to the developer comment on used games.

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games:Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

Basically MS and Sony will have the same used game stuff in place. Only real restriction is person to person a 'giving' or if you previously used a retailer that isn't 'participating'. Wonder if instead of per title there's just some fee for MS's Azure platform for managing the game stuff. Surely there's costs there somewhere.

Well, I guess I won't be buying an Xbox one then. I hope Sony don't implement similar anti consumer policies or I might be passing on both next gen consoles, sadly.

Yeah, I don't expect the cloud/remote play flexibility, but a disc in the drive allowing you to play it forever without being online. All the used stuff they've already said is comparable to this though, up to the publishers. Probably be able to ebay/half.com/yard sale/gift your games too without limitation.

Sony's policy will likely be similar, albeit more relaxed.
If Sony block private sales and rentals, then I'll pass. I'll be upgrading my PC instead.

I just realised; I bought every console released in the past two generations, and now I might not be picking up any more. What a sad state of affairs. This industry is fucked.

I am sure I will get flamed to all hell for this and called an Xboner, corporate apologist and whatever else is negative right now. But im going to say it anyway...

I like the direction they are taking this. I think there are some really talented and creative developers out there that are going to be able to really leverage an always connected device that has dedicated Azure support behind it. Most of us on this board are here because of one massive multiplayer online (always connected!) game that was released almost 15 years ago. Imagine what they could have done with technology like this. I am really hoping it will lead to some very unique and creative experiences.

I will definitely be buying a PS4 at launch because I think it will offer the best traditional console experience with some amazing games and good indie support.

If MS can show off some new, interesting and FUN looking experiences that wouldn't be possible without requiring a broadband connection then I will line right up to get one. And the reverse is also true, if its a few weeks before launch and all they have shown off is a box that offers nothing new but requires a bunch of new hoops to jump through then I will happily stay home. Truth be told I don't really have time to play games from two systems plus the PC anyway.

I do understand why some people may be upset, and hopefully they have a choice that makes them happy with the PS4.

Like I said yesterday, I think its ultimately good for the market that both consoles seem to be taking a different approach to gaming.

And yes, the DRM stuff sucks... But being able to have me and the kids on one account and share games is an acceptable compromise to me. Im sure it wont be for some people and that's fine too. Personally I could quit gaming tomorrow and have plenty of hobbies to eat up my limited spare time. I do it because its fun and worth the money spent, the minute its not is when I move on.

I followed your links Sean and I couldn't help but actually like this one option.

I do expect you can't play the same game at the same time but it is a neat idea if it works like Microsoft claims it does. I do this often with my brother and Steam expect he has to log into my account to play the games leaving me asking him to log off, he logs in while I'm at work.

I kind of expected Microsoft to go ahead and implement the DRM even with all the negative they are receiving from gamers. If done right then this DRM/used game stuff will be something no one will really care about. Microsoft will use value to make the DRM irrelevant or at least tolerable. Lower game prices, extra content or this ability to share a game to others is what they will do. Publishers will force you to buy the Xbox version of their game by making it the choice to have.

I'm not being a fanboy, just seeing where the market is going and like to watch which company will do it right. Price of console/games will be the deciding factor on who walks away from E3 with the crown. I honestly feel like Sony could walk all over E3 if they would just release their movie library to the plus network with unlimited viewing. Would change not only the console market but how we watch movies in general. People that don't even play games would buy a PS4 just for that service. Frustrates me knowing Sony is the only one that could do it yet will ignore it to make core gamers happy.

The DRM shit is whatever to me, i dont let bitches hold my games anyways. That aside im more concerned with the tech details surrounding MS as well as "(almost) always on". I'm not keen on how vague they have been with information and the fact that you learn more about the console 2nd hand from the various rumor mills. Everyone who is complaining about it is more or less doing it based on principle. The idea of DRM and forced connection is gay even if you have no problem always being online.

I do however hate being forced to purchased that shitty kinect device that i will never fuckin use for whatever reason they thought it would be cool to make it mandatory.

The 24 hour thing is still ambiguous. They say you can game up to 24 hours offline, does that mean 24 real hours or 24 game play hours in-between checks? If it's the latter, who gives a fuck. If it's the former, I still give zero fucks.

The sharing games with up to 10 friends/family is a really awesome feature.

The apologizing going on here is hilarious.

Also that sharing with family shit will require you to buy into the XBL Family Packs, your "friends" are not part of that.

The family stuff sounds pretty sweet. That was one of my biggest concerns with the xbone.

If it works like it does on the 360, you can add anyone you want to your family account. They just have to log in from your console once and then you can add them. There are no validity checks or anything like that. The only downside (that I remember), which is minimal, is that only the primary account can purchase MS points.

Its fuckin retarded about the Kinect. They say you can pause it, oh boy! How about not having to pay for it and only buying it if you decide you want to play Kinect games? Do they think since you're forced to own it, you will just suddenly decide to buy those games?

It's not like MS requires a birth certificate or a fucking blood test to get on a family plan Sean. You can add whoever the hell you want.

Who gives a fuck? They're gonna pay for XBLG anyway, why not do it as a group? No different than my friends kicking me money to use my Amazon Prime account every year.
