Holy fuck at that E3 missing titles video... can't believe that versusXIII was announced in 2006. Pretty fucked up development cycle to not have released yet. If it's really going to PS4 as FFXV then it's going to need some major graphics updates which is just more work.

I have been gaming since pong came out. but don't have a steam account.

microsoft can fix all the issues they are having and this DRM bullshit is Blowing up in their Face right now

At E3 during their main presentation at the beginning, go

we heard the complaints, we listened. this is what we are going to do.

24hr check in - gone, you no longer have to connect to the internet while playing a single player game.
mandatory installs- gone, while we'd prefer you to install the game, you do not HAVE to anymore
loaning games to friends- yep you can do this again, with the no mandatory install it will work the way it always has
kinect- the ability to completely shut JUST the kinect down-ie completely turn on/off voice and motion controls

etc. basically they just eat crow admit it was the wrong way to go , revert to the way it always has been and bam problem fixed.
the question is. do they have the balls to admit they are wrong. (potentially pissing off EA and other publishers that are pushing for said drm)

Sony - provided they are not doing it the same way- should have a FIELD DAY @E3 slamming the xbone's drm policies..unless MS changes direction and fixes what the gamers say is wrong with the policies

Somehow i dont see them backtracking. Alienating everyone who does not have an internet connection is pretty stupid, sure most have it but alas some do not.

It took them how long to say this about Win8? And they still aren't fully "fixing" the issues from what I understand, just kinda meeting halfway.

I don't think they'll do an about face on any of their policies for at least a year or until it proves to be hurting sales. And if PS4 follows suit then I doubt it'll ever change.

i agree if sony does the same thing then it's over. however since MS's policies are ALL OVER THE NET being bashed, i think they will not do it and suffer the same backlash.

several major news sites are slamming the policy. BBC(tamely but they are supposed to be impartial) time, WSJ, CNN, all have come out against this policy. several of the major gaming sites have come out against the policy- IGN not being one of them- etc.

Sony just has to show the console, show the games and go, want to lend your copy of (insert game name) to a friend- you can, no problem just give them the disk and they are gtg, want to sell the game to a retailer because you no longer want it, you are good to go on our end, unless the publisher says otherwise, you can, etc etc etc, basically Bash the hell out of MS's policy showing what you did different and its the way it always has been (which coincidentally is the way nintendo went with both the 3ds and wiiu) and they pretty much will win e3 easily.

You do realise steam is an option and not a neccassity don't you? Xbox on the other hand has only one other competitor when it comes to core gaming. Due to their being no choice if Sony decide to go the same route we are being forced into this as gamers. Please read at least the last 5-6 pages to find the numerous examples of steam and Xbox not being the same instead of trying to be the guy that thinks it cool to have the minority view.
With how massively successful digital distribution is in the PC game market, you can't say with a straight face that you're surprised the big publishers (with their knife to Microsoft's back) weren't ready to pounce on that success and add even more restrictions. The new Xbox works just like how certain Steam-required games work. You can buy the box and disc, but you still need Steam to play it (only one I could think of off the top of my head that I own is Modern Warfare 2, but I know there's many more if someone wants to chime in). Do I like that? No, do not. I'd like to be able to let my friends borrow games from me on PC, but it just isn't possible anymore. I'm surprised it took Microsoft this long to try and pull it off. If I had to guess the only reasons it hasn't happened sooner is because of the small hard drives offered for the 360, lackluster broadband internet in the past (in the US), and building up the infrastructure on their end. Unfortunately for us, those three things are here and ripe for the abusing. Am I some PC superiority douche? Yeah, a bit. Am I surprised in the least that publishers want to fuck customers every way possible? Not at all. I'm sure Microsoft could care less as long as they continue to sell consoles, same with Sony. However if the publishers start to play hardball and refuse to release for one console or another, someone's going to cave. I'd love to hear the closed door meetings between Microsoft, EA, and whatever other big publishers are pushing for always-on DRM for consoles. Probably played out more like some mafia movie than a meeting between two tech companies.

Long story short -- console always-on DRM has been coming for a while, the technology just wasn't there for it to happen yet. Now it's here, suck it up. However if Sony straight up comes out and says none of this crap is happening for the PS4, well good game Microsoft you may as well pack it in for the next few years.

Answers a question I had earlier, about whether Microsoft is presenting before Sony. With MS going first they're primed to clarify or otherwise respond to the hubub. Not that Sony would likely spend their time with prepared pithy remarks against MS policies, but it at least gives Sony a window to know whether to go with Presentation A or Presentation B. Which is drastically over simplified, but seriously, you gotta have a backup keynote in your pocket ready to pounce. If Sony had been going first they would have had to be 100% safe mode.

That's fucking retarded and you should feel bad. We don't have to "suck it up", why should we? If we don't want or like something, we can make it known now easier and louder than ever. People are telling Microsoft to go fuck themselves in massive numbers and rightfully so. The media is backing them up as well.

We have options and we don't have to put up with their shit.

I think the difference between Steam and what Microsoft is doing now is how each system grew. Steam progressed in a way where each restriction was largely offset by many benefits. By providing things like streamlined patching, easy game organization, an in-game messenger, and an easily accessible storefront, most people were willing to overlook what it took away. It filled a void that hadn't existed for PC gaming, whilesimultaneouslycreating a DRM that didn't make the honest customer feel like he was being punished.

Microsoft, by contrast, already provided many of these benefits (since it was obviously an inspiration for Steam). Any of the new benefits the Xbox One provides over the previous console (watching TV on your TV, voice control, apps, etc.) are largely seen was irrelevant to gaming. The restrictions they are imposing now aren't offset in any meaningful way, so people are less willing to accept what looks like they're giving up without getting anything in control, despite being comparable to Steam.

Not to mention, some of the restrictions Steam imposes are not nearly as relevant as they are to console gaming. Buying used games or renting, for example, were things that were on their way outlongbefore Steam came into the picture. They did exist somewhat, but they were never as big a part of PC gaming as they are for consoles. Steam can't be held responsible for those being restricted in the same way as Microsoft (and, almost certainly, many publishers) are attempting to do now.

I think it's easy to say this when the internet is being angry... come November all the xbros will buy an XB1 no matter what MS says at E3.

And what about those that *aren't* Xbros? I love my X360, more so than my PS3, but not blindly enough to just buy the next thing Microsoft shits out.

MS turned me from a solid Xbro into a PS4 owner provided Sony doesn't fuck the pooch this week. I didn't even buy a PS3. My brother was talking like he is going to switch to PS4 also.
