I've never actually used a XIM but it's apparently the only adapter that actually solves the problem of emulated joystick input having dead zones and massive acceleration curves.
Ironically, the PC ports of some games like Dead Space 1, Duke Nukem and Alice: Madness Returns the mouse actually emulated a joystick in the same way the cheaper console adapters do. aka, dead zones, acceleration, slower up/down movement than left/right, and unplayable dogshit mouse control. I don't have a clue why the fuck they did that but I suffered through DS1 and deleted the other games mentioned.
Sure, its basically cheating in FPS, but the way modern FPS are made you can rack up kills by holding down the trigger with your eyes closed anyway. Even I had some top games when playing BLOPS with my xbros for the first time the other night, despite needing my target to basically walk into my crosshairs for me. The xbros claim the top console players are "just as good as mouse & keyboard" yet when I watch them I think "if I aimed that slowly on PC, I'd only ever kill people who were facing the other direction"
Hell, even pulling the trigger takes longer when you have those giant analog triggers made to emulate a gas pedal.
