Yeah, people forget how good Moon was because he was stuck on teams with shitty offensive lines, poor coaches, and no running game. It's no mystery why he never went far in the playoffs. He's top 10 in passing yards and passing TDs, even with spending his first 5 years in the CFL. Definite HOFer.
It's like you forgot that Moon played in a run - n - shoot offense with the Oilers. Didn't Cody Carlson have pretty good numbers too when Moon got injured? I'm not trying to bag on Moon here, I was a fan of his. But I see him as kind of the bottom bar for hall of fame QBs. Any worse than him and you shouldn't be considered, any better and you should probably get in.

Isn't that pretty much what we're all saying? He didn't get in due to titles or big playoff success, just a long career or prolonged very good numbers throwing the ball. Thus, similar players (Romo/Rivers) would need some more success or longer period of big numbers to be considered.

I just wanted to clarify that I liked Moon, because I was kind of running him down. Oh, and no, I don't think others were saying he was the lowest hallworthy tier. They seemed to be saying he was fucking amazeballs and a slam dunk first round selection.

So are we saying that Young wasn't nearly as good as he was made out to be? I could buy into that.

As far as McNabb, there's no chance he gets in the HoF.

What do you guys think about the TEs and the Hall? Lots of them this era, and I don't think they all get in. Gronk, Witten, Gonzalez(in), Gates, Jimmy Graham, etc. That's a lot of TEs to put in in one decade.

Gonzalez and Gates without a doubt. Not sure about the other guys. Gronk needs quite a few more years of continued dominance to be considered. Gonzalez and Gates benefit from their ridiculous longevity. They played at a very high level for years. But it's a position that's seen a bit of a revolution in the modern era. It can't be held to the same standard it used to be.

None of these guys are even borderline, except Gronk because he's still young and building the body of work. That really is a lot of can't miss HoF guys to induct.

Also, suddenly you can debate what constitutes a TE. Does Jason Witten get into the HoF just because they dubbed him a TE for $ reasons and not a wide receiver? Is Jason Witten HoF receiver material?

I'm not saying he's not but "Tight End" is a money term nowadays, not a football position.

If Gronk doesn't get hurt he's in. Graham needs more time. Gates and Witten have ridiculous numbers but no playoff success and by the time they get to the voting there's going to be 10 TEs a year putting up similar numbers. It's gonna be hard.

I'm just short of saying Witten is a lock, because the voters are retarded, but when he's done he's basically going to be at least second on all the TE receiving lists and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in football who didn't respect him, his work ethic, and his ability to do EVERYTHING asked of him. A lot of TEs, especially these days, are "one or the other" types. They can be glorified receivers, or really good blockers, but rarely both. Witten is both. For non-QBs it's usually enough to be consistently good, and Witten is exactly that. Not first ballot most likely, but first five years almost certainly.

Witten is a UT kid, I'm with you 100%. I'm just saying 5 TEs in like an 8 year period going in would be a lot. There are like 10 in the Hall of Fame since 1950.

He was great, to be sure. But, he's no fucking Joe and he's certainly a tad overrated. I think a lot of him being overrated comes from the fact that he was so mobile. He had all sorts of media attention swirling around him and his inability to "win like Joe" after Joe went to the Chiefs. Most of it was deserved. Suddenly, that narrative completely disappeared after '94 (despite still having amazeballs teams even after the SB trouncing of the Chargers), but people don't realize all the teams heshouldhave won with. We all chastise Manning for being a "regular season QB", but he has records for days, rarely ever had a decent defense, and has the same amount of SB wins. The only category Young ever really "led" was QB rating, but he's now 4th on that list.

Most of this is just lamenting on what "could have been", really. It still chaps my ass that the 49ers squandered so much potential in the 90s.

That isn't what happened at all. But, you'd know this if you had watched football prior to 2001.
We all knew Brady was awesome so we started watching in 2000. Then, after one of our boston sports fan meetings where we discuss being assholes and cheating, each of us threw $5 in the pool so that Mo Lewis could destroy Bledsoe and let the golden boy start throwing his floppy, saggy ball towards the record books.

Alstott is in the Fantasy Football Hall of Fame for most TD's stolen from someone's starting RB.
If you started another Bucs RB when Alstott was playing you're a fucking idiot and deserve to lose anyway!

Also I think Mike Tolbert is probably worse in that regard, fucking asshole.
