In the 2010s or so, it was relatively more recent. I haven't had a Dominos pizza since the 80s and as a kid I usually ranked them below Pizza Hut or later Papa Johns. I don't think I've had a chain pizza since the 90s thinking back. When you live in an area that has a ton of Italian-Americans, there's no shortage of local pizza places that actually make good ones and we usually just go to one of them.

Didn't Domino's do a whole revamp of their sauce and crust recipes back in the mid 2000s or something?

Yeah, like Cyb says, it was probably later than that. I only know because of where I was living at the time, and I bought my house in 09 and was still going to pizza hut. Then border foods became dogshit, and then dominos was like "oh wait, we have an opportunity to not be dogshit"

I think about it growing up, we always did Domino's or Little Caesars back in the 80s and 90s. And you also went to Pizza Hut when they had the buffet and the welcoming atmosphere, especially with the tabletop arcade cabinets.

I think maybe the last time I ordered from Domino's was when I was still living in Charleston, but when I was dating my wife up there, she turned me on to the local joint off of James Island, run by two Greek Brothers, I'm right before I moved they had opened up a location couple of miles down the road from my apartment. They had phenomenal Pizza, and to this day this day both of us wish we could get a pie from there.

Now the only time we ever get pizza is from HEB. Haven't done it in a while and I think they screwed up their prices, but they used to do it as a loss leader, and you could get unlimited toppings for a huge 24-in Pizza for 10 bucks, just put your order in before you went and grab your groceries, and during happy hour you can get a free craft beer they had tap. It was easily the best pizza deal for a very long time.

We just don't ever eat pizza that often, maybe once every couple of months.

I will say CiCi's Pizza buffet back in college was something you got dragged to pretty often with your buddies. Think my favorite part of that place was the salad bar and the arcade.

I need some just go ahead and make my own. I got a rotisserie deal for my Weber kettle that came with a pizza stone and a big flipper, and the ring converts the Weber to a wood fired pizza oven. I just don't like having to screw around making dough. I'm sure if I actually just sat down and did it and proofed up a bunch, I could probably make something pretty tasty.
