Home grown, good variety tomatoes are the food of the Gods. Get a good beefsteak tomato you grew, cut thick slices, give it plenty of salt, some fresh mozzarella, and plenty of fresh basil and you have a dish for the gods. Also, home grown tomatoes, home made bread, home made goat cheese with basil and salt and pepper is a fucking amazing lunch. Toast the bread, dice the tomatoes with garlic and mozzarella, then put them on the grill for about a minute and you have amazing bruschetta. Store bought tomatoes, especially in the winter, taste like cardboard. When you get fresh, locally grown tomatoes it is a whole different story.
Tomatoes are great when you doctor the fuck out of them with spices and add a bunch of shit to make them essentially not a tomato!

Wow, what a superfood! Truly a "food of the Gods".

I have a weird ick with lettuce. If it's not very fresh it grosses me out.
Lettuce is the #1 killer as far as food-born diseases. See any port a potties in a field? What do you think the lettuce illegal does inbetween grabbing your lettuce heads?

I really avoid lettuce unless I knew where it grew/came from or that it was properly washed. I am growing about two dozen heads of lettuce at any one time.

Actually, they're great all on their own, too. But, like every food, proper seasoning and cooking makes them better. Is that a new concept to you?
