I thought he did part of 4 rooms but I couldnt remember for sure. It's always felt weird that he didnt direct True Romance either, I always remember the interview where he said Tony Scott did a better job with the script

4 rooms was an anthology with 4 directors. Roth was the belhop in all 4. One of which was directed by QT. Stupid lighter bet.

Looks like this one is going to be the Jackie Brown of this "trilogy". Nobody watched Jackie Brown when it came out either, and it was arguably his best movie.

Damn this movie was so fucking good. I actually can't believe it was almost 3 hours, it really didn't seem like it to me. Not sure how I'd rate it against his other movies yet but I think it's near the top.

Yeah. And Tarantino and Inarritu seemed a little prickly to each other. Ridley Scott didn't have time for anyone's bullshit. He's like I make movies, its not hard, I don't rehearse, or go to locations or do anything else. The Martian was easy.

Didn't watch it, but if Scott talked shit about anyone else's most recent film, all they'd have to do is say Prometheus and the argument's over.

tarantino talked about how the entire cast of django was jazzed to go see prometheus in the middle of filming, and they rented out a whole theater, were hyped, etc. did not say a thing about how they thought the movie itself was lol

With two more movies to go as much as I liked the Westerns I'd like to see Tarantino return to do a couple pulp movies.

Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and True Romance ( Only writer) are still my favorite settings for him, and his off beat characters.

Thought the first two hours were great, didn't really like the last act starting with Chapter 4 - Domergrue's Secret.
Fully agreed.

Spoilery stuff:
I thought the first half was fantastic, with lots of fantastic writing, cinematography and captivating character exposition. It was everything I love about Tarantino.

But then, all the story development and interesting writing pretty much stops at the intermission / before Chapter 4. The rest of the movie is really just Tarantino's usual murderporn. The flashback scene fell flat, with the tension being killed by us knowing the fate of the characters as well as not really giving a shit about anyone involved. The whole setup with the jelly beans and all seemed really pointless, but I assume it was included as a reference to some movie Tarantino loves the shit out of. It was also strange to have SLJ's big reveal of the "No Mexicans" story immediately followed up by the scene showing Minnie not giving a shit when the Mexican arrives. Michael Madsen and Tim Roth's characters never received any exposition. Channing Tatum's character could be cut from the movie and you wouldn't even really notice.

Also as mentioned, all the characters behave completely illogical at multiple points in the story, but that's pretty standard Tarantino fare. I don't mind, as long as everything else works.

Given the huge expectations I had coming in, and the fantastic movie I saw before the intermission, I was really disappointed when I left. Maybe I just didn't watch enough old westerns to catch the references.

Note: I watched the extended version of the movie with full intermission and all. I don't know if the standard release is edited differently and if that makes the experience better. The second half might be stronger without the break in the middle killing all the tension.

Tarentino Masterpiece. 9.5/10 cinematography, cuts, shots, pacing, score and dialogue. 9/10 Great acting performances, Walter Goggins killed it - his character perhaps I consider the main protagonist for this film. In the sense he had the most interesting development / arc. Character logic 7/10 at the end, but it's not a major flaw nor is it worth the effort to dwell on it too much. Definitely not to the level previous posters want to bring it down to.

Solid 8.5 overall. This won't drop, but I imagine rising on next viewing. There was plenty of subtlety through out and I'd love to catch them all.

Watched it in the 70mm extended showing, and it delivered wonderfully. Great experience.

He marched someone out in the snow naked until they began begging him not for their life but for a simple blanket and then decided that the last warm thing that person will ever know is his cock in their mouth. He then fucked them in the mouth until they froze to death in the snow. That degree of sexual torture and rape with a little snuff thrown in to boot? It's some of the most evil shit I've seen in a motion picture in years.

If he actually did it that is and wasn't just telling a story to get the general to draw on him. As a provocation it'samazing. As something actually done by one human being to another human it's vile to the point that Samuel L. Jackson becomes the villain and Domergue the hero.

No wonder you are still a virgin.

You neglected the fact that they were there to assassinate him, and would likely have done worse to him. It was self defense. The whole dick in the mouth thing in the snow was just to have a little fun, the outcome would have been the same (the son dead).
