No one is defending those dance groups and the people associated with them are all immoral scumbags. Trying to say that this movie is an expose meant to shine the spotlight on this industry is retarded since it is in no way meant to bring down anyone. If they wanted to do that they should have made a Netflix documentary about it since those get a TON of publicity.
The director said that is what she wanted to do. There doesn't always have to be a person to bring down, sometimes the person is all of us. That said, sometimes directors fail.

It really seems to me like people are not defending these groups, but just kind of glossing over it. Like, the scene you talk about above, that's gross. Is it gross because they filmed it or is it gross because she's on a team of 5 girls coached by several adults teaching them how to emulate stripper dances from Cardi B and then doing those sexualized dances in public for crowds of hundreds or thousands? You can go to a dance competition and watch multiple preteen twerk teams, you can look on youtube and find videos with millions of views. I'm glad that everyone seems to care so much about young girls, I just wished they cared more about the real life ones than the fictional shit on some Netflix show.

The director failed so hard she made child porn.

Maybe she should never work again as a director if that is the case.

This is a fascinating thread-- brings up a lot of issues regarding the blurred lines between fantasy and reality. I have never really been a fan of slasher movies. Over the past decade, the genre of "torture porn" has taken off. The concept disgusts me, but not in the semi-fetishistic way the directors/producers want it to. But in none of these films are real people getting mutilated or tortured, despite the depictions on screen. That's where the moniker of "torture porn" is an error.

Part of the fascination of pornography is that the emotional and physical elements are severed with regard to what is actually happening. It's similar to the attraction of watching a sporting event. The ball going through the uprights actually occurs (double entendre intended). The physical acts, despite one's value judgements actually happen.

That's where "Cuties" goes awry regardless of whether any of the critics here have seen the film or not. The damage has occurred whether anyone else watches the film or not. You cannot depict children in potentially physically or sexually provacative poses, stances, or outfits without actually doing it. It's porn. That's what defines porn-- the sex/insertion/acts are real. Just like sports (yes- even professional wrestling). The physical acts are real. These acts/actions are performed by children. Hence, de facto, "Cuties" is child pornography. So wrong, regardless of whether or not there are organizations, other cultures, WHATEVER that may engage in this debauchery. No one needs to perform murder or rape to educate anyone of the immorality of those acts.

How is that whataboutism? This is the topic of the movie. Or white knighting? I'm saying it's way worse than just being the topic of some french movie, the problem is local to all of us and widespread.

Whether or not it is porn is in the context. Many people here are seeing this maybe for the first time and being all shocked, which is good, but missing the forest for the tree.

Dude, you're all being dense as fuck. In real life, these teams and groups exist all over and the behavior you're reading about in relation to this movie is commonplace. No one fucked these kids, they filmed them pretending to be on a dance team. The same shit is happening all over the place, all the time, you just don't know about it because they don't film actors pretending to do it and then put it on Netflix. Or more accurately, they do, it just floats under the radar for most people. If the actions themselves are what is offensive, then there is a much larger societal problem to address, because the movie is just playing pretend using a real culture and real world situations. If it's not the actions themselves and just the fact that they were filmed, that's fucking retarded. It isn't as if the sexualization of young girls turned into a thriving industry and cultural movement is just ok and fine so long as it isn't filmed.

If any of you had actually been to just one of these dance things, I think you'd understand what I mean better. Somehow, as a society, we've decided that this is ok so long as it's a niche thing and doesn't intrude into mainstream, then it's not ok, then we are supposed to be outraged because that's what the infinite scroll tells us to do. Then we all forget about it a couple of months later and all the actual, real-life behavior that people pretended to be all old man yelling at cloud harumphf about just continues unabated. Actual, real kids getting actually abused and actually sexualized? no time for that. This was a problem before the movie comes out, the movie comes out, everyone talks about the movie, no one talks about the problem.
You are being dense as fuck. I dont financially support the pedo pagent circuit or any of that shit. I was financially supporting Netflix when this happened. They can fucking die as long as that movie is there as far as im concerned.

Chaos, do yourself a favor and watch some clips of Cuties. what you're describing is what they say they intended to show. but what they actually do is produce professional quality music videos of hoes shaking thir asses and the cameras are zooming in on their crotches. but its not hoes, its 11 yr old girls. they arent showing things from far away or describing whats going on with "teams" or "competitions", they are zooming in graphically, they made the teams and competitions. but with 11 yr old girls. what they said and what they did are two VERY different things

Cuties is child erotica. That’s it.

What’s scary is the footage of the kids that didn’t make it into the movie. I am sure that’s being sold to some pedo’s some place.

Bro, I got bored at work and was going way further down this stupid pedo path than I want to go. Fundamentally, we all agree. This movie is gross. All I'm trying to add is yes, reject the movie and Netflix if you want. But please know that the content of the movie isn't manufactured, that shit is real and it's out there, so reject that shit too, or at least be aware that it is actually a thing.

nobody denies that. i think we are all on the same side. the point was the idea they had and theme is one thing, becoming the very thng they claim to be against is another.

Well, I always admired this about westerners, the idea that you should vote with your wallet.
Cancel Netflix, stop buying products made by woke companies, stop working for woke companies.
If the only way you fight wokeness is posting memes on the internet, they won.

Really torn on this.

I took a look at the movie and I find it hard to argue with any of your points. I only caught bits of it but it's pretty fucking uncomfortable.

Been wanting to cancel Netflix for months as it's shit over here outside of Star Trek, Witcher, and Discovery (don't judge me) but my partner and teenage daughter watch all kinds of crap on it and they never concern themselves with the bigger picture, just watch the shows and end of. Every time I've floated cancelling it in the past they've asked me to keep it going but I don't know if I can be bothered to have the entire pedo conversation with them.

Did anyone need a porn with 11 year old girls made to come to the conclusion that pedos are real, and sick fucks sexualize little girls? No? Then the movie shouldn't have been made, what are you even arguing here?

4D chess, movie was made to expose pedos who will give it praise thinking they are hiding behind the claim of art. Likely not the intent, but it certainly has done that.

Because the entire point of this movie and what I said is that it isn't just pedo shit. There is a huge, mainstream industry built around the sexualization of young girls and making money from that. More than one industry, in fact. Whether the movie is a failure at getting that message across doesn't matter. That shit's still out there.

You can find the same shit on YouTube if not worse and no one seems to be offended about it and vowing to quit going on YouTube, I mean that's way too inconvenient.

It's being "selectively offended" where you're offended about something but only as long as it's not too much trouble or too inconvenient. :)

No but you support the platform by viewing videos there. Views is the only thing that matters on YouTube, you might not pay for shit but you're supporting the platform.

As I said, too inconvenient...fucking hypocrite.
