The New England Patriots 2014 Playoffs Thread

So seeing how many times the pats had made the super bowl made me wonder about championship totals in sports. Out of cities in the USA that have all four major sports New York leads with fifty (tops in baseball with 35). Boston has 2nd with 35 (leads nba with 17 and nhl with 6). Chicago comes in third with 27 ( leads football with 11). Seattle for reference has three. One each in hockey, football, and basketball.

As a Niner fan living in the Seattle area, let me just say no to that. I was sort of ok with them winning last year since the city hadn't won anything in decades, but the fans are intolerable now. I'm absolutely sick of seeing Seahawks everywhere I go.

Your reasoning is off too. The Seahawks joined the NFC in 2002, so the Niners have been pretty much shit (much worse than the Seahawks) for the majority of the time they've been in the same division. The only time the Niners have been really good in that stretch were the Harbaugh years - it was never an easy two wins before or during that time. On the whole, the Seahawks have been better during the time they've been in the NFC west. Don't forget that when Holmgren was in Seattle they dominated the division and made the super bowl one year (a super bowl they arguably would have won if not for some terrible calls).
You're right. Fuck those faggots. Also, I've heard about enough from the Seahawks players crying about how no one believed in them. That might have had some truth to it last year, but they were the favorites in this game and tons of people picked them to repeat from the beginning of the season. Maybe Carroll tells them that bullshit to get them fired up, but nobody is underestimating them anymore and they just sound stupid talking about it after the games.

The everybody doubted them woul only be relevant if you are talking about their receiving corps. I think every game I have watched recently with the Seahawks in it has had some mention of sub par receiving group or no stand out guys aside from maybe Willson. I don't think it's disrespect though, just the truth. Baldwin and kearse would be 2nd or 3rd options on a lot of teams.

To be fair hardly anyone picked them to repeat because its extremely unlikely. Many people said the team would be mostly in tact so if anyone is likely to do it, it would be this team.

No disagreement the offense could use a good receiver. Baldwin was number 42 in receiving yards this season.

And every one of us would take him as the head coach of our team. I've come to the conclusion that while belicheat is one of the best coaches to ever be in the game he really sucks at hiding shit that every team does to one degree or another.

So hope pats win now, salty Seattle tears and another asterisk for Brady and belicheat. Win win in my eyes

Wait, so, is kicking an inflated football easier than an overfilled/regulation football? The 12 balls per game include the kicking balls too, right?

It still doesn't make sense how not a single ref, 1-2 of which handle the ball every single possession, didn't notice anything at all wrong with a single ball, and according to the guy in one of the links above 2 lbs is enough to press your finger into it. And when they confiscated the ball(s) after the first half, why did the refs only take a couple and give the Okay to the remaining game balls which from what the report implies were all practically under regulation from NE?

I'm curious to see what the colts balls weighed and if there was any decrease in theirs, but it does kinda sound like weather did it. If not, and the Pats really did under inflate by 2lbs, people should be more upset with the NFL/Refs for NBA levels of incompetence.

so many bad puns

You actually think they'd do something that might undermine being able to call the Patriots a bunch of filthy stinking cheaters again? Shit, they probably didn't even weigh a single Colts ball and even if they did and the Colts balls ended up being 5 pounds deflated they would never say a fucking word about it. They might even come out and say the Colts are so amazing they were playing with balls 15 lbs over-inflated just to make it seem even worse on the Pats.

11 of 12 balls, all of which are inspected and OK'd before the game. Tom Brady pulling some magician tricks and making his magic deflato-needle disappear into his jersey each snap?

He consistently breaks the rules. At this point I would suspend him for 5 games and dock them multiple draft picks. It's not even about what they do, it's about how they actively ignore the rules everyone else is supposed to follow.

The only right response from the Patriots now is...
to have the opponents' balls taken away for tests at each half of every game.

Imagine its your job to weigh a football? "Fuck it Bob, I'm going to get a hot dog, these are definitely footballs"

I feel like 11/12 almost exonerates the patriots and puts the blame on the refs. no way they can deflate 11 balls on the sideline without anyone noticing. they were submitted under weight.
