The story of the cyclops is viewed differently in the current era vs. how it was historically viewed. In the story, they go ashore and find the cyclops cave. Odysseus' men want to steal all the food and animals and gtfo, but Odysseus wants to meet the giant instead. But they ate some of the cyclops' food while they waited, then the cyclops shows up and Odysseus tries to invoke hospitality and the cyclops is having none of it and starts eating his sailors. If I recall Odysseus brought some wine because he wanted to offer it as an act of hospitality, but never got a chance to (until later when he does the whole blind the cyclops plot)

Basically, if you came home and found a bunch of dudes in your house eating your food, people today would view that as a violation of your home (even if one of the dudes offered to give you some bottles of booze to make up for it). But historically, that was less of a taboo thing to do because of "laws of hospitality" and the general religious views on the matter at the time (presuming the person was actually in need).

I doubt this movie will be even 50% faithful to the actual story. Between "artistic license" and bad interpretations of the text, I have no hope for this.

Aren't some of these people already listed as playing gods? I don't think you can really do this without the supernatural stuff. Not sure how he is passing off ugly ass lupita nyogo as a Greek goddess. Automatic pass for me.

Is the odyssey going to be one movie and done? Or is this the Odysseus Cenimatic Universe?

Or maybe the homer extended universe?
I think you mean the homo extended universe.

Went and looked up that Mia Goth chick above and holy shit, what is that abomination?

so matt damon is gonna play the main character

What was wrong with that 90s? Mini series version other than the cut back of nudity and sex… well that is a big part that this feature film can put back in and make a complete version- but we know it will be gay.

Can Matt really pull this off?

Not really. But race-bending it towards a white guy will probably get ignored, lol. Also hoplite helmet 1000 years too early. But whatever.

That's interesting. To muddy the water though, when Homer contemporaries represented the trojan war heroes , I think they did so using contemporary attires instead of historical ones? So when adapting Homer, should one do it with a visual style coherent with how the events narrated were represented then? Or should one strive to be more historically accurate, even if it is to depict events that are, by and large, mythical?

That's the one with Armand Assantes right. I remember it being pretty good for a TV production Hallmark channel sort of deal. I think it has some goofy CGI but it was still pretty faithful.

Thank you, someone else with some standards. I don't know how we ended up with her as someone supposedly attractive recently. She'll probably be Aphrodite or some shit.

In case people weren't aware, she was in that series of movies starting with X. Pearl and something else were the follow ups, only ever saw X and that was for the other two hotties, not her ugly frog face.

"Caucasian" is not a thing that exists. It comes from a disproven and thus obsolete classification-system by the late 18th century German scientists Meiners and Blumenbach. It's about as relevant to genetics of either ancient or modern-day humans as flat-earth theory is to modern space exploration and astronomy.

No. While there were probably "white" rulers of Egypt at times. Cleopatra was of Macedonian (greek) decent and thus most probably olive-skinned (just like the Macedonians that settled north of the mediteranean in contempary greece and balkan countries during these times).

King Tut was also not white. He was originally thought to likely have been complete Idris-Elba-levels of black due to how he is depicted on statues, etc., but genetic research has corrected that, meaning he was likely lighter-skinned than that, but still olive/dark-skinnedin line with mediteranean/arab populations of today.

No genetics for Jesus exist, but there is no reason to believe he looked any different to the jewish and later muslim population that inhabited and still inhabit the region today, i.e. significantly "darker-skinned" than jewish populations that lived in Europe/Russia for centuries and only (re-)settled in Isreal in the 20th centruy.

Amazing that Jesus being described as a white guy seems to move your needle by massive amounts. Yet, a few black and Asian people who would completely destroy any aspect of realism and immersion in a modern movie about Greeks "doesn't move the needle...." Sounds like retard talk. Jesus was Arabic but many of them look very white depending on where they live. Same for Greeks, and other mediterranean peoples. Not at all like Africans or Asians. Does this help you understand things a little better? Or should I dumb it down some more?

Judging by the cast of this and the race swap activist cunts in this thread. This movie will 100% suck and will be a flop.
